Republican congresswoman blames mass shootings on Democrats

"It's interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats."

During an interview with an Albany radio station on Wednesday, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) reacted to calls for gun control following the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida by claiming that so many of these people that commit mass murders end up being Democrats.
Tenney made that claim as she and host Fred Dicker talked about what they take to be an unfortunate implication of the Parkland shooting.
What scares me most is that a lot of these legal gun owners are going to be targeted now, Tenney said. In their demographic, they have the least amount of crimes of virtually any other demographic.
Yeah, but they tend to vote Republican, they tend to be white, Dicker replied. Most gun crimes are occurring in whats euphemistically called the inner cities involving minorities, and theyre the ones that Democrats generally going to bend over backwards to protect, so you dont hear about mandatory prison sentences for people involved in gun crimes say in Albany, New York, or downtown Utica.

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) said Wednesday that many mass shooters end up being Democrats.
Tenney made the claim in an interview with radio host Fred Dicker, exactly one week after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.
Obviously theres a lot of politics in it, Tenney said. And its interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats, but the media doesnt talk about that either.
Nikolas Cruz, 19, is accused of killing 17 students and staff members, and injuring 14 others in a shooting at a Florida high school last Wednesday.

Among all U.S. House and Senate members, Rep. John Katko tied for 3rd in the country in the 2016 election cycle when it comes to taking contributions from the National Rifle Associations political action committee, research shows.
Katko took $9,900 from the NRA in three contributions in 2015 and 2016. Katko took another $1,000 in June for the current election cycle, bringing his career total to $11,900.
The No. 1 recipient of NRA contributions in the country for the 2016 cycle was Sen. Roy Blunt, a Missouri Republican, who accepted $11,900, according to the non-profit Center for Responsive Politics.
New Yorks Rep. Lee Zeldin, a Republican from Long Island, also tied for 3rd with Katko and 11 others.
This is the amount of money each member of Congress from New York took from the NRA in the 2016 election cycle along with his or her NRA rating and December vote on a bill that allows owners of concealed-carry permits to transport their guns into any other state regardless of that state's laws.
(The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act was the first to pass in the House after the mass shootings in 2017. The Senate has not voted.)
