Washington (CNN) - The National Rifle Association will participate in CNN's nationally televised town hall Wednesday with students, parents and community members who were affected by last week's school shooting.
After a gunman took the lives of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, lawmakers are facing renewed calls for legislation on gun reform.
The NRA accepted CNN's invitation to participate in the town hall and national spokeswoman Dana Loesch will represent the organization.
The CNN town hall, "Stand Up: The Students of Stoneman Douglas Demand Action," will also bring together the victims' classmates, parents and other community members, as well as Florida Rep. Ted Deutch and Sens. Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio.

(24,703 posts)These Young adults should be sponsored and be allowed to enter into and brought into the floor of each state house to have there comments recorded for the record and be given the right to speak, they should be able to challenge those representatives that keep perpetuated by the state laws and massacre being inflicted.
Then they should go to the federal congressional house and speak, to challenge everyone of the cretins that keep getting blood money from the NRA and the gun manufactures and have it recorded into the record and challenge those cretins..................I think they should be offered from their individual member(s) of the their Congressional elected member of House too turn there vote over to one of these young adults to vote for the member of Congress on gun legislation with consented permission, ( I don't care if it is biased in any shape or form), and show how the cretins vote when they are present--------------if Paul "ayn rand" Ryan, and Mitch "yes I am turtle" McConnell are confronted on the presence of these young adults with their teachers, so be it, they have blood on their hands------------------------the civic lesson would show this country what and who is behind this stuff and how these cretins keep getting blood money into their individual coffers.
Every elected member of state and federal Congress can allow these young human beings that right to vote in the elected members spot---------------there is no law against it, the member of Congress can ask for that one temporary rule change after a detail conference with the parties involved, because the first question, if I was one of these young adults is what is your vote, and this is how I am going to vote--------------this would be a show and tell moment, a civic lesson
And having a show and tell on CNN listening bullsh*t will not solve the problem-------------------it's for rating, even if MSNBC did it, it would be for ratings, ABC, CBS, NBC, for ratings , and forget Fix noise not happening.
I think it should be covered on C-SPAN live vote.............enough of the games

(5,528 posts)I don't believe they have the ability to seem reasonable and compassionate when viewed in public. I fully expect them to make statements that will make the audience gasp in horror.
I want the entire Country to come face to face with the craven disregard for life that they promote.

(5,240 posts)"prove" their points and no one else there will have the knowledge to confront them. They will send out their public face not the people who they send out to pro-gun rallies. They are a multi-billion dollar business, they know how to sell. This was a total sellout by CNN.

(2,593 posts)It will turn into a shouting match and the opportunity for positive dialogue will be lost.
Why do they always feel the need to have "both sides" presented? It rarely, if ever, results in any meaningful conclusions.

(37,748 posts)NRA is attempting to triage their hemorrhaging image and tanking brand. Dana Loesch (the NRA spokesperson for the event) will offer the right words, accurate platitudes, just enough sympathy, and 77 metric tons of thoughts and prayers.
But nothing else.
This is who Dana Loesch is:
"... They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse the resistance.... To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness.... The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth...."

(9,287 posts)NRA Spokesmodel Dana Loesch: They use their media to assassinate real news. They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse the resistance. All to make them march, make them protest, make them scream racism and sexism and xenophobia, homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness. And when that happens, theyll use it as an excuse for their outrage.

And in 2014 for her book cover, Loesch posed with the same style of gun used to murder 20 children in Sandy Hook.

(4,993 posts)will look like if, as so many on DU have called for, the Fairness Doctrine is reinstated.
CNN, instead of voluntarily including the NRA, would be obligated to include them.
and based on the reaction of some in this thread, I say "be careful of what you wish for".
