Wisconsin Assembly rejects background check bill, offers funds for armed school guards

Source: The Cap Times

The state Assembly voted Tuesday on party lines to reject a proposal to require universal background checks for gun purchases in Wisconsin, opting instead to offer funds for armed guards in schools and crack down on "straw purchasing."

The measure to support armed safety guards passed 71-24, with the support of all Republicans and 11 Democrats.

Students from several Madison high schools joined Assembly Democrats in calling for stricter gun control laws on Tuesday morning, hours after the state's attorney general said he is open to allowing firearms in schools. The debate follows a shooting at a high school in Florida that left 17 dead last week.

The Quinnipac poll released today reports that support for universal background checks is 97 - 2 percent, including 97 - 3 percent among gun owners. Seems that 2% happens to all be WIGOP. Let's flip this House in November.

and a significant portion of them would not pass an extensive background check.

Take my nephew as an example... Gulf war vet with PTSD. Owns something like 6 guns including an AR-15 with scope and large capacity magazine.

Some of the drugs he is on to allow him to function would probably be red flagged in a background check.

of NEVER back down. Slippery slope and all.

And they're partially right: we need to win to get a foothold to prove that YES we CAN stand up to them. They know if we do get wins - we can continue to push. Right now it needs to be all out, no prisoners, no surrender - show them for what they are.

They have created this evil corporate (gun manufactures funding), NRA, GOP, FEAR based entity and it is out of control. It's going to take a lot of effort to win.

Always suspected Walker was a dimwit, and my take he is. The Guy has been running for President from day one,and if it was not for the Social Security Survivor's Benefits Program, this Guy would be shit out of luck. Another is Paul Ryan.

If you aren't fast enough, wealthy enough or lucky enough to survive into adulthood and be able to "pay your own way" - or at least have your parents and their networks pay your way, then the GOP has decided you don't deserve to survive to retirement.

Or, better yet, rent-a-cop assholes who couldn't pass a civil service exam (oh wait, Walker got rid of those anyway) or make it onto an actual police force.

My dad was a cop for over thirty years, he just shakes his head at this shit. He also was a Marine who survived the battle of Chosin Reservoir in Korea and has seen first hand what mass casualties look like... all this shit gives him unwelcome flashbacks.
