(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump blasted media mogul Oprah Winfrey on Twitter on Sunday night over a segment on CBSs 60 Minutes program and again said he hoped she would face him as an opponent in the 2020 presidential race.
Actress and television host Winfrey, now a contributor to the CBS program, led a panel of 14 Republican, Democrat and Independent voters from Grand Rapids, Michigan in a wide ranging discussion about Trumps first year in office.
Trump tweeted: Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!
Winfrey has told various media outlets, including Entertainment Weekly, that she is not running for president, but has considered it, after there was much recent media speculation.

If there is a more confident woman alive, I want to know who.
Trump, in comparison, has plenty to be insecure about.

(2,739 posts)My husband and I watched the interview with interest. As I'm sure you all suspected, Oprah was comfortable and assured. She was only insecure in Trump's mind.
The piece was a follow-up on an earlier 60 Minutes focus group in Minnesota with Trump supporters and Democrats who'd voted for Hillary that had been interviewed shortly after Trump's inauguration. The focus group members had sharp disagreements during the first interview, but they developed enough of a relationship during the focus group that they decided to stay in touch. They ended up spending more time together socially and creating a FB group to stay in touch and discuss issues.
They still had strong disagreements although they now had a relationship that they also valued. I think it was just a couple of the liberals who said the reason they'd thought it important to stay in touch because it was their only access to understanding the point of view of Trump supporters.
They'd almost walked away from the group a couple of times, but continued to hang on. Oprah interviewed them about that, and showed some of the first focus group discussion. Frank Luntz was involved in the focus group discussion apparently from the beginning. He set up a second focus group discussion involving the same members for this story and interview Oprah did.
The #MeToo movement and Trump's offensive tweets about women and domestic abuse were, I believe, the issues that caused them to almost split.
At the end, Oprah turned to Luntz to ask him what words stood out to him from the interview. The liberal women had wanted the conservatives to denounce Trump's words, which they refused to do and didn't get why it mattered so much to the women. That was the word that stood out to Luntz: denounce.
Since Luntz has orchestrated the use of language and framing issues for Republicans since the 1980's, I hold him as one of those largely responsible for the propaganda that Rush, FoxNews, and the whole conservative "news" machine use to manipulate listeners.
