Clapper on Mueller probe: 'I do think there are other shoes to drop'

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 02/18/18 10:12 AM EST

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said on Sunday that he believes there are “more shoes to drop” after an indictment stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“Not addressed here is potential involvement of the Russian government, which we certainly saw through intelligence channels that the Russian government was master minding this,” Clapper said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."

The Department of Justice on Friday announced charges against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian organizations for allegedly attempting to interfere in the 2016 election. The indictment alleges the goal of the Russians was to support then-candidate Donald Trump, and damage his opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Clapper, who served as the director of national intelligence from 2010-2017, oversaw the intelligence community's report that concluded Russian conducted an influence campaign in an effort to aid then-candidate Trump. He said Sunday that the indictment validates that report.

there are a centipede's worth of shoes yet to drop.

I forget exactly who it was, but I remember the allegory.

masterminding the Russian side of the fence WHILE someone is masterminding (I hate using this word w/ tRUMP) the tRUMP side of the fence. Coming to mind immediately? The sons of tRUMP, both of whom were at that famous meeting to gather 'dirt' on HRC. Indirectly (since he's a coward and won't do it himself) tRUMP himself is the ringleader.

But he will lash out and bring down everyone else including his family, before he goes down. There won't be anymore friends or acquaintances to bring down by then because he's already mouthed off to everyone and everyone is sick and tired of his mouth and him. Believe me, money isn't everything, and he's going to rapidly find this out. I think when he finally does get kicked out/indicted (and it will happen, there are just too many Russian events happening around tRUMP's orbit to be pure fate), there will be so many Champagne bottles being uncorked (I have a bottle on reserve solely for this purpose) and drunk, that a day of national celebration will have to be declared.

Then the serious work can finally begin. Work that will ensure that no one ever, ever again interferes with our elections, manually or digitally. Laws will be passed to prevent the type of mentally disturbed person as tRUMP is from ever running again. The republican party will be severely reprimanded (if not by legislative edict, then by voter edict). Those who conspired to hide the truth or bury it, as we all know there was, will also pay. Pensions will be forfeited, jail terms will be issued, and additional laws will be written to prevent this kind of nefarious behaviors. Dirty money will totally be banned. Election cycles will be shortened, and placed on 'probation', all states, until each can prove that no election results can be ever tampered w/.

I only wish that 60 years of ever-worsening, ever-more-terrible Republican shenanigans hadn't made me a skeptic. It can always get a lot worse, and it most likely will.

Your post, however, reminds me of this song:

But here are the lyrics:

Nella fantasia io vedo un mondo giusto
Li tutti vivono in pace e in onestà
Io sogno d'anime che sono sempre libere
Come le nuvole che volano
Pien' d'umanità in fondo all'anima

Nella fantasia esiste un vento caldo
Che soffia sulle città, come amico
Io sogno d'anime che sono sempre libere
Come le nuvole che volano
Pien' d'umanità in fondo all'anima

Such a beautiful song, I found the English translation of, below. It truly is a beautiful song, and unfortunately, a song loses something in the translation from language to language (the tones/pitches/etc. of Italian to English). Thanks for posting such a beautiful response. Peace and prosperity, my friend.

In my fantasy I see a just world,
Where everyone lives in peace and honesty.
I dream of souls that are always free
Like the clouds that float
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

In my fantasy I see a bright world
Where each night there is less darkness.
I dream of spirits that are always free,
Like the clouds that float

In my fantasy exists a warm wind,
That blows into the city, like a friend.
I dream of souls that are always free,
Like the clouds that float
Full of humanity in the depths of the soul.

I'm old enough to have done so (and actually did) when Nixon resigned. Seems MUCH MORE should be needed when the Orange One goes down.

The first thing I thought of, if this maniac leaves office, was yelling and screaming 'YEAH MAN!' and the likes, probably driving my other half and doggies (3) of them all crazy!

The 2nd thing would to be logging onto DU land, and seeing all of the celebrations going on, and then the really true, and hard, work continues, as usual, fighting for basic human rights and dignity, feeding ourselves to fend off the physical and mental starvation, and bettering lives for all.

Then the bottle is opened. I'll need it by then to calm down! Ha!

Yes, I do remember Nixon, and the shenanigans he pulled off. Would have been respected far more if he just simply told the truth, and then let the chips fall. Ah, politics is a dirty business, and if one isn't careful, it can swallow the truth, people, everything.

Peace to you and yours.

we have to do our part too. We have to be very active in upcoming elections, and not get complacent from thinking that Mueller is going to take care of it for us.

Maybe Wikileaks also, although it's arguable since they portray themselves as journalists, and if they weren't involved in the actual hacking, it's going to be a tough sell.

Releasing information someone else has gotten is not prosecutable, since the Post, Times, and other journalistic organizations do that whenever it's related to a story.
