Intelligence chief: Federal debt is 'dire threat' to national security

Source: The Hill

BY SYLVAN LANE - 02/13/18 02:24 PM EST

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats warned lawmakers Tuesday that failing to curb the national debt could jeopardize national security.

Coats, testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he’s concerned that the U.S. government’s “increasingly fractious political process particularly with respect to federal spending is threatening our ability to defend our nation, both in the short term and especially in the long term.”

Coats’ warning comes days after President Trump signed a bipartisan budget deal with a $300 billion increase in federal spending tied to a short-term bill to fund the government through March 23. The bill also suspended the debt ceiling, the federal limit on how much debt the U.S could hold, until 2019. Trump also rolled out his fiscal 2019 budget on Monday, which doesn’t balance within ten years or eliminate yearly federal deficits.

Fiscal hawks have raged against Republican leaders, which they say abandoned their pledge to curb irresponsible federal spending. Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have praised the budget deal for adding billions in what they consider crucial defense spending.

When the avalanche hits the fan and we are faced with a national security crisis we can't afford, they'll just take everything you have and call it even. I mean asset seizure, peoples! Liquidity and real estate. Tax those assets to death. It will be your patriotism.

They can't seize anything.

What they can do is make our money not worth anything to anyone, even to each other.
It'll be like late 80's soviet grocery stores everywhere, and we'll all be wondering how we can eat F-35's. (One bite at time, lol)

I was speaking more to the foreign investment entities that are buying US public debt.
I should have been more specific.

why don't you and your lackey's take a pay cut, then second, raise taxes on fucking corporations that pay no taxes, (but tax payers have to spend in defense of the country) but get all the benefits of fucking people in two years, after our taxes start going back up, because after all, their tax rate is now 21% and they will not have to pay 21% in taxes, with all of the loop holes......................so fuck you

Cut military spending, don't enlisted more members, all active duty get a 25 percent raise.

Claps for me can begin below, cause we're patriotic.

The majority of military people only stay in between 4 and 8 years; to keep the military at the same size it is now we have to recruit continuously.

However! General Secretary Trump has stated he wants to increase the number of people on active duty. Between the tax slash he already did and the drunken-sailor budget he wants, even if we cut military pay - which I wouldn't put past Trump to try - we can't afford the military we have, much less the one he wants.

Trump supporters celebrated their victory.

"It turns out that United Russia won the elections in America," Viktor Nazarov, the governor of Omsk, Russia, declared in a radio interview.
