EPA Director is blowing through taxpayer money on luxury flights to meetings shrouded in secrecy

......................

In an interview Friday, Bowman said the agency doesn’t release Pruitt’s schedule in advance “due to security concerns” and because it could be a “distraction” from the trips. But she added that he has received government invitations for all his foreign trips.
.........................

On Monday, June 5, accompanied by his personal security detail, Pruitt settled into his $1,641.43 first-class seat for a short flight from the District to New York City. His ticket cost more than six times that of the two media aides who came along and sat in coach, according to agency travel vouchers; the records do not show whether his security detail accompanied him at the front of the plane.

In Manhattan, ...........................

That Wednesday, after traveling with Trump on Air Force One for an infrastructure event in Cincinnati, Pruitt and several staffers raced to New York on a military jet, at a cost of $36,068.50, to catch a plane to Rome.

Four trips alone cost taxpayers a minimum of $90,000. Knowing how unnecessarily large his security detail is, you can imagine that number is considerably higher.

Even Pruitt’s most vociferous critics are awed by his regulatory rollback, “the scope and the magnitude of [which] is really unprecedented,” says Thomas Cmar, a lawyer for the environmental organization Earthjustice. Pruitt, Cmar notes, “has no hesitation about acting quickly and acting on his own.”

In early January, the agency published a list of 67 environmental safeguards Pruitt has either fully rolled back or is in the process of undoing. These include the 2015 Waters of the United States rule, which expanded the protections afforded by the Clean Water Act, and the Clean Power Plan, which established nationwide carbon emissions standards for power plants. It’s the regulatory equivalent of the German blitzkrieg across Poland: so extensive, and effective, that no front is safe. The ban on chlorpyrifos, an insecticide EPA scientists say may cause neurodevelopmental problems in children, has been lifted, to the delight of Dow Chemical. An Obama administration rule curbed power plant emissions of mercury and arsenic, among the most destructive elements to human health. Despite scientific consensus about how harmful those emissions are, Pruitt has ordered the rule under “review,” thus indicating that he intends to weaken it.

He must be doing something totally unrelated to destroying the environment. Something even bigger.

I don't recall hearing anything like that about an EPA administrator in the past. What a bizarre cabinet.

I have one other question. The EPA Environmental Protection Agency is an agency charged with protecting the environment. Can anyone name even one thing Pruitt has done that could be remotely considered a protection to the environment? Anything?

RW has been successful at dividing the environment from public health but they are one in the same. Polluted air, water, and soils, means more disease and illness and early death. It also means damage to the developing fetus that can result in lifelong disabilities.

The RW has made the environment and EPA out to be a concern of liberals that causes unemployment of working people - which is not true but their efforts have worked for them.

Did you know that there are environmental health journals that have researched damage done from chemical exposures, polluted schools/home sites etc. This information is essentially blockaded from mainstream medical journals. In fact, the one mainstream occupational/environmental health journal is staffed by medical directors from corporations. After 9/11 their only contribution to the disaster was for doctors to treat psychological distress.

someone is going to come unglued and attack them personally. My only regret about that is that I won't be there to watch.
