Backing Israel, WH warns Iran to stop 'provocative actions'

Source: The Hill

BY LUIS SANCHEZ - 02/11/18 11:34 AM EST

The White House is standing behind Israel after a Syrian missile brought down an Israeli F-16. In a statement, the White House called Israel a "staunch ally" while warning Iran to cease "provocative actions" in the region.

“Israel is a staunch ally of the United States, and we support its right to defend itself from the Iranian-backed Syrian and militia forces in southern Syria,” the White House said in a statement.

"We call on Iran and its allies to cease provocative actions and work toward regional peace."

President's Trump White House has maintained close ties to Israel while directing heavy criticism at Iran, repeatedly accusing the country of violating the terms of the nuclear deal negotiated during the Obama administration.

What does Iran have to do with Syria. Isn’t Russian supplying missiles to Syria? I am very confused.

They have been providing billions of dollars in direct aid to assad, conducting training and intelligence, providing military equipment and weapon systems, and sent in republican guard fighters and of course hezbollah.

The IRG generals and other senior officers are the defacto commanders of the Syrian army.

Hezbollah, an Iranian aligned and equipped militia are the best troops Syria has.

I really didn’t understand his comment.

I just take for granted anything coming out of this administration is horse$hit.

The US and Israel are backing the terrorists. And if the US can topple the legitimate government how many decades will we stay there helping one side or another side in the civil war?

Elected in a clean & fair election were they?

Six smaller political parties are permitted to exist and, along with the Ba'ath Party, make up the National Progressive Front (NPF), a grouping of parties that represents the sole framework of legal political party participation for citizens. While created ostensibly to give the appearance of a multi-party system, the NPF is dominated by the Ba'ath Party and does not change the essentially one-party character of the political system. Non-Ba'ath Party members of the NPF exist as political parties largely in name only and conform strictly to Ba'ath Party and government policies.

In February 2016, head of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria, Paulo Pinheiro, told reporters: "The mass scale of deaths of detainees suggests that the government of Syria is responsible for acts that amount to extermination as a crime against humanity." The UN Commission reported finding "unimaginable abuses", including women and children as young as seven perishing while being held by Syrian authorities. The report also stated: "There are reasonable grounds to believe that high-ranking officers—including the heads of branches and directorates—commanding these detention facilities, those in charge of the military police, as well as their civilian superiors, knew of the vast number of deaths occurring in detention facilities ... yet did not take action to prevent abuse, investigate allegations or prosecute those responsible"

It is as legitimate as North Korea's, Russia's and Western countries in Africa.
