(23,359 posts)This seems like a big deal. Who is in the Office of Congressional Ethics? Can they be trusted? I'm embarrassed that I don't know.

(15,383 posts)Color me conspiratorial, but whenever I hear of a new congressional investigation I think they must be deflecting from something more serious.
I would rather have all the perps being hauled off by the Special Prosecutor than getting some ethics wrist-slap.

(131,223 posts)but that Office may take too long to come up with anything timely and useful.
elleng
(131,223 posts)is an independent, non-partisan entity charged with reviewing allegations of misconduct against Members, officers, and staff of the United States House of Representatives and, when appropriate, referring matters to the House Committee on Ethics. In all but one set of circumstances, the report and findings of the OCE Board must be publicly released.
The OCE has a professional staff consisting primarily of attorneys and other professionals with expertise in ethics law and investigations. The mission of the OCE and its Board is to assist the House in upholding high standards of ethical conduct for its Members, officers, and staff and, in so doing, to serve the American people. Governed by an eight-person Board of Directors, Members of the OCE Board are private citizens and cannot serve as members of Congress or work for the federal government.

good luck with that...

(844 posts)That the Republicans tried to do away with the OCE as their first action when they took control. Insane to think about what would have happened if they had their way.

(14,276 posts)When Nunes announced his intention to construct a wall earlier in the Intelligence Committee's shared secure room so as to divide Republican staffers from Democratic staffers, I was initially baffled. But if every Republican Intelligence Committee staff member is under investigation for leaking intelligence they must be butt hurt enough to want to be separated.

(4,014 posts)the majority Republiscums could have stopped that idiot Nunes in his tracks once they knew what he was doing with the WH in coordinating a series of what proved to be gaffes. Instead, they let him run wild and are therefore complicit in his treasonous actions. While I believe most of these R-scum representatives did not leak, their complicit silence may still do them all in.
This may also indicate that Ryan has also been under secret FBI surveillance. Why? Ryan and Nunes MUST have talked, perhaps at some length, to keep his ill-fated charade going. Just a hunch.......
