Trump considering new work requirements, raising rent for federally subsidized housing: report

Source: The Hill

The Trump administration is considering adding new work requirements and increasing rent for people living in subsidized housing, according to NBC News.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) would allow public housing authorities and private owners to require each adult in a household to work up to an average of 32 hours a week.

The elderly and disabled — who make up 55 percent of those receiving federal housing aid — would be exempt from the requirements. Another 26 percent of those receiving assistance are already working, NBC News reported Tuesday.

The proposal also recommends rent increases for those receiving the subsidies. Rental contributions would increase to 35 percent of tenants’ income, up from 30 percent. Recipients would also not be allowed to deduct medical and child-care costs from their incomes.

Pretty soon one will have to hand their firstborn over into lifelong servitude as part of the requirement. No children? A kidney will do.

Trump was sued decades ago for wanting no blacks in his buildings.

Now he's using his office to attack the sick and poor.

Most budget worksheets recommended spending 25% to 30% of your gross monthly salary on rent, and generally the poorer you are, you should not be paying more than 25% on rent. People would have to be fairly well off to pay 35% for rent. That is a significant cut to a foor family's food budget, as well as the rest of the normal living expenses.

I suspect this is a gift to his son inlaw who is fighting rent laws and evicting tenants at his properties.

He had no problem evicting poor people in Baltimore, or even going after people who no longer lived in those buildings. Put him in the “special place in hell” line.

Those with very little will now have even less. Meanwhile his entire administration is blowing through money while gorging and overindulging themselves with all things of grandeur.

hours and no deduction for childcare. As a single mother who raised two kids, that is not possible if you are supposed to feed and clothe your kids too. If you have a car, live in it!

I can't argue with raising the rent..
here I am living the high life at taxpayer's expense --
on my total monthly income of under $1000.

And some poor souls have to make do with $33 million a day.
Just ain't fair!

In most places poverty is not a sexy topic.
since the '60's, it has gone out of fashion to protest poverty.
People will protest police killing, fracking, war, -- all very legitimate objects of protest, I protest these things too.

But poverty doesn't raise much excitement.

I have been dreading the moment when these guys (morons) get down to "entitlements".
Like most poor in this country, I cannot tighten the belt anymore...

Thank you for posting this and for expressing concern.
Makes me feel less invisible.

Considering the sheer idiocy of the "work" he does do.

As Gandhi is supposed to have said,
'I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.'
