Preet Bharara, Tom Perez join Biden at Democrats' annual retreat

Source: Politico

House Democrats head to their annual retreat this week with one goal: Unite behind a winning election message that can at once counter and transcend President Donald Trump’s divisive “America first” politics.

Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney from New York fired by Trump, and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez will join former Vice President Joe Biden and a slate of other speakers aimed at helping Democrats energize their base and woo the working class voters who swept Trump into the White House.

Democrats say their goal is to leave the three-day confab in Cambridge, Md., better equipped to cut through Trump’s stranglehold on the news cycle while also not alienating the blue collar voters who were crucial to his victory – and could propel Democrats back into power in the House.

Democrats need to scoop up 24 seats to take back the House and they’ve got history – midterms are generally favorable to the party not in the White House – and a string of Republican retirements on their side. But the infighting that dominated the party after the 2016 election is still an undercurrent that Democratic leaders have yet to resolve.

house caucus walked out of the chamber on their hands, or even punched out the nearest Republican, that'd be good for one news cycle. What the next day? The media wouldn't cover the same thing twice.

Like it or not, the Republicans are the ongoing train wreck the planet is focused on.

And that WILL continue as long as it does.

"But the infighting that dominated the party after the 2016 election is still an undercurrent that Democratic leaders have yet to resolve."

Sarandon, Stein, & Nina should stfu this time around & save the name calling & blame for AFTER we're in power, & then negotiate their way to whatever they were demanding.

Trump & the Kremlin is what their division got us.
Next time Tell Sarandon & Stein & the Koch purchased 3rd party burn-it-all-downers to step back, stfu & allow the Dem Party to regain power.

Truth is, they never gave a thought beyond their mission to divide voters. Just as the Koch funded Tea Party did.

They did the same thing with Nader in Bush vs Gore.

We wouldn't be staring at the current Climate Change disaster facing us if Nader would have been stopped early.

We wouldn't be STILL trying to fix this same shit had Sarandon, Stein & their 3rd party divisionists taken the outcome of 2016 serious.

Money & Media. Fk u. Lives were on the line.

They have a huge force of groups lead & wholly supported by the like of Pres Obama, Hillary Clinton, Emily's List, & all those "established" Dems.
Not one of them is saying "younger candidates need not apply".

ONWARD TOGETHER supports all Dem groups working to unseat Republicans in 2018/20.
The torch will be generously passed but its also wisely protecting Democratic values that include all citizens.

If you want to go far, go together."

I am working for a younger one, too. He is running for Congress.

Our candidates are so qualified. I hope voters will be able to see that.

I'm 37. I've been working on campaigns for years. This is the first time I've had a candidate younger than me. Most of my candidates have been boomers.

I belong to a grassroots organization that has a couple of ladies who knit during the meetings. They have been knitting pink hats lately.

I am really happy to be able to work for a younger candidate. The others I am supporting are in their fifties. One is sixty. Age and experience are nice, but we need candidates of all ages. We can work together.

One of the groups I support has two meetings weekly. They meet at noon, and at 7:00 p.m. Some of the younger people come over on their lunch hours and then go back to work. They have family obligations in the evenings, and this works well for them. Both meetings are mixed as far as age goes. We are all working together. I do not hear any ageism in the campaigns I am supporting, or in the central committee or grassroots groups. I think it is coming only from the very far left. Maybe it is better to work together and show by example what we can do.

Who organized milliennals last time around?

You can get them to the rally party but if ya can't make them get up to take their vote serious on the big day, then someone other than Older Dems abdicated THEIR job.

Maybe its time to stop blaming Dem leaders for the faults of others.

Thanks

That old campaign division meme needs to be dumped in the dustbin. It was never true nor was it the fault of Dem Leaders.

Who exactly failed to motivate their rallying base to vote?
Blame lays at the feet of the divisionists as well.

Enough is enough.
Treat 2018/20 like America's future depends on it.
Fking take this serious next time around.

If you're one of the few Democrats who haul 99.99999999999% of the democratic water, ya get constant blame for not loading everyone else on your back and hauling them too.

Obama: "I Will Consider It An Insult To My Legacy If You Do Not Vote; Want to Give Me A Good Send Off? Go Vote!"

People can continue to whine about supposedly "weak" leaders OR face the grim reality that the weakness and failure of our party lies squarely in too many bad eggs and shiftless duds among our own electorate. The pubs have huge faults, but boy they know how to commit to winning.
