Super Bowl: Police remove 17 protesters after brief shut down of light rail

Source: Minnesota Public Radio

Police removed 17 protesters after a group blocked Metro Transit light rail trains on the Green Line near the University of Minnesota's West Bank for about an hour Sunday afternoon.

Metro Transit officers removed, but did not arrest the protesters, said transit spokesman Howie Padilla. All protesters appeared to be adults.

Both eastbound and westbound lands were cleared by 4:15 p.m. No one was injured.

Padilla said representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union were at the scene and helped officers facilitate the removals.

And how did blocking public transportation "send a message"? brooklynite Feb 2018 #1
It certainly sent a message to the people on the light rail trying to get where they were going GatoGordo Feb 2018 #5

I doubt the purely symbolic gesture made any new friends with them.

I am all for passive resistance, etc. But this kind of thing doesn't help the cause. While it certainly creates public awareness, it is the wrong kind of publicity and it polarizes people who might otherwise have been open to a better understanding.

Never forget.

Also a light rail train is less likely to run over protesters. The MSP suburbs are filled with reactionary racist assholes driving big SUVs and fantasizing about running over liberals. White supremacists have also shot and killed peaceful BLM protesters who were not blocking anything
