Gowdy: 'I've been a pretty lousy politician'
Source: The Hill
BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 02/04/18 08:40 AM EST
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), who will retire from Congress at the end of his current term, said in a new interview that he considers himself a pretty lousy politician.
My wife hates it when I say this, but I was a pretty good prosecutor, I think. But I've been a pretty lousy politician, Gowdy told CBSs Face the Nation.
So I've done it for seven years. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to do it, but it's time for me to -- whatever time I've got left -- I want to spend it in the justice system because that's where my heart is.
Gowdy announced last week that he will not seek re-election this year, adding himself to a list of House Republicans retiring at the end of their current terms.

Gowdy: Memo has no impact on Russia probe
BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 02/04/18 08:09 AM EST
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said during an interview airing Sunday that the previously classified memo alleging abuse of government surveillance powers by the Justice Department has no impact on the ongoing Russia probe.
During an interview on CBS "Face The Nation," Gowdy the chairman of the House Oversight Committee was asked about the recent comments of President Trump, who claimed the memo "totally vindicates" him in the Russia probe.
"I'm sure the president is frustrated. You know, [Rep.] Adam Schiff [D-Calif.] prejudged the investigation before we interviewed the first witness," Gowdy said during the interview.
"So I'm sure that that instructs some of what he said. I actually don't think it is has any impact on the Russia probe for this reason."

Gowdy: Trump should not fire Rosenstein
BY KYLE BALLUCK - 02/04/18 08:52 AM EST
House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said in an interview broadcast Sunday that President Trump should not fire Rod Rosenstein, saying the deputy attorney general has had a stellar career.
"If the president makes any move to dismiss him -- he failed to express confidence in him the other day -- would that concern you? Margaret Brennan asked Gowdy on CBSs Face the Nation.
It would, Gowdy, who announced his retirement last week, responded. Again, I'm not in the Senate. I don't have advice and consent. And the president has not sought my counsel on this.
But you don't think he should be fired based on what you've seen? Brennan asked in a follow-up question.
I dont, Gowdy, a former prosecutor, said.

(3,335 posts)his grandstanding, waste of public resources, and his abuse of power towards Hillary having proven nothing. Just because he wants to return to being a prosecutor doesn't mean he should, and it doesn't mean he's entitled to it. Also, he thinks he was a pretty good prosecutor? A prosecutor has a lot of power to destroy innocent people's lives. He hasn't proven he can be trusted once again with that amount and type of power. Sounds like to me that he just has an over inflated opinion of his KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) as they say in federal employment. Just because he has a high opinion of himself, doesn't make it TRUE. Only in the Congress can he waste as much time and resources 'investigating' and have so little to show for it. No other federal agency would permit it, and the Justice Dept is too important to be his 'proving ground'. I say he's been feeding at the 'public trough' long enough. Time to GO GET A REAL JOB. Not just go from feeding at public trough after public trough, cause he can make it in the real world where people are held accountable for their actions or lack thereof.

(20,998 posts)...You've given the term "partisan hack" new depth and breadth. Deep down, MAYBE you're a relatively good person, just mixed up with the wrong political crowd. You owe Hillary Clinton A MASSIVE APOLOGY because you know, your "manic Benghazi mania" served no other purpose than to damage Clinton's Presidential candidacy. You also owe America A MASSIVE FUCKING APOLOGY, because you've been part and parcel of allowing a truly vile and evil man to dominate our national landscape.
So yes, HowdyGowdy*, you're a tool and a fool and A VERY DISHONEST POLITICIAN. You owe your constituents A MASSIVE APOLOGY for putting their legitimate interests on the back burner while you acted as butt-boy to Lyin' Paul Ryan and Jabba the tRump*.
Go home Gowdy*. History will not be kind.

You're a lousy human being.
It's worse than you think.
Lousy human being....
And far worse than he thinks....
(I believe this isn't the last we will hear about what the lousy human being named Trey Gowdy actually did during the time in the House of Representatives that he pretended to care about the constituents and the "People". And there is a very dark and calculating reason for his sudden resignation and desire to "return to the law". And if it turns out his comment "whatever time I have left" is because he knows he is on borrowed time and his death warrant was signed....well...whether by natural causes or not, its because of whatever Trey has done that only Trey knows right now...)

However, I recently saw that same episode and wanted to throw a shoe at the TV. If they elect their DAs, I sure as hell hope they dont elect him. Hes tarnished whatever goodwill he may have had.

Then he can be in charge of it. And make the decision to fire Mueller "all on his own". Based on this and that memo.

He knows he backed and helped get the orange jackass in by smearing Hillary with the endless Benghazi hearings.
Now he's trying to get away from it all before he gets pulled down by the undertow.
