Trump casts doubt on chances for immigration deal

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 02/02/18 04:47 PM EST

President Trump said Friday that Congress might not reach an immigration deal by March 5, when protections begin expiring for many young immigrants living illegally in the U.S.

"We want to make a deal. I think they want to use it for political purposes, for elections,” Trump said during an appearance at a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility in Virginia.

“I really am not happy with the way it's going, from the standpoint of the Democrats," he added.

The president has sounded increasingly pessimistic about the chances of brokering a sweeping immigration deal involving the young immigrants, known as “Dreamers.”

The trouble is his base thinks he's clever, instead of a useful (to Putin) idiot.

Unwind this unhinged Russian agent's mess.

every two minutes are what has caused this problem. No one can work with an erratic, undecided "great deals" maker. The budget talks will not go well. Dems are pissed off over this, the memo, etc. I see another shutdown coming.

He is setting himself up to save the deal and be the 'hero'. He will claim other tried to kill the deal but he pulled it through. Who knows that the deal will look like but it gives him some space to agree to something.

I don't know if Thump is trying to please his base or not, but I agree with what you said. He isn't interested in making an honest deal.

I would go one step further. I would say that he and his followers in the Republican Party deal in bad faith, and the sooner we Democrats accept that ugly fact and start playing hard ball with these people, the better for the Republic and our future.

13. We have no hard ball...the Democrats have no power...not the house, the senate nor the presidency...

shutting down the government makes the GOP happy and will limit our chances in 18. As I said when I saw the dreamers picketing Schumer...better to go to Ryan or McConnell's house...no point in picketing those who can't help you not that they don't want to but since the Dems were kneecapped in 16, they can't. And some that are lambasting Democrats also attacked the Democratic nominee in 16. Those who did not vote for Clinton in 16 have blood on their hands.

He has to keep his racist 20 percent, when all the a Russian crap goes down. Of course, this will piss off the non-racist humans, but that is what Trump wants. For us to fight each other, and not for all of us to turn our heads towards what are government is doing.

He would like to somehow push the blame on Democrats so hopefully none on our side will fall for it. He does have a debt limit coming though and the markets are in turmoil...but still I think the GOP would allow the economy to collapse if it came to that. We need to neuter him in 18 by taking the House and the Senate...nothing else matters.

14. Nothing is saving DACA. Anyone who reads what his base thinks could see that

If we take the house and pass a legislative DACA the Senate will pass it and Trump will most likely sign as he has not had many chances to sign a bill into law.

If we are dumb enough to shut down the government over it we will not win the house. We just do not have any cards to play when in the minority. Most Americans want DACA but are not passionate about it. And they do not want a government shut down.

Now, if the republicans try to force the minority to vote for a bunch of poison pills, like making immigration white again, then we do not play ball and let it shut down. They will get blamed since they would be seen as using the shut down to try to get their way.
