Legal fund in development to help Trump administration and campaign staff pay legal bills in Russia

Source: ABC News

By JOHN SANTUCCI and MATTHEW MOSK Feb 2, 2018, 11:12 AM ET

Lawyers are laying the groundwork for a new legal defense fund to aid those who have at one point served candidate and now President Donald Trump and who have been pulled into the ongoing Russia probe.

The fund, called the "Patriot Legal Expense Fund," is being looked to as a way to provide financial support for any legal bills incurred by any individual who "was an employee, consultant, fundraised or volunteer" on behalf of President Trump’s campaign, according to a document labeled “draft” that was posted on the Office of Government Ethics website.

The document, written by lawyers from Wiley Rein LLP, is dated Jan. 29, 2018, but it is unclear who started the fund or how much in assets the funds currently hold.

However, separately the Trump campaign which spent $1.1 million on legal fees last quarter included a $10,000 payment to the same law firm for “legal consulting,” according to FEC filings. A source with knowledge says the campaign did hire the law firm to start the fund, but that the campaign will have no role in the day to day management or the funding of the project.

The Dems and MSM need to scrutinize EVERY dollar (or is it ruble?) coming in and out of this "legal defense fund".

More specifically, keep close tabs on who is contributing the money and who is getting the money.

We can call it, "Prosecute the Traitors to the Full Extent of the Law Fund". We could give the money to the FBI Benevolent Association, or maybe reward the person who, "Gives evidence for the arrest and conviction of Donald Trump".

Fuck these morons and their traitor defense fund. Have the COCK (Koch) Bros, pony up $100 million or so to their patron saint of greed, Donald Trump.

Can't these millionaire "patriots" just pay for it out of their new tax windfall?

Or is that what this new request to raise the debt ceiling is for?

This fund will be protect trump https://www.rawstory.com/2018/02/rachel-maddow-may-discovered-legal-defense-fund-trump-staffers-caught-russia-probes/

SNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Thursday announced that her team appears to have found the legal defense fund for aides embroiled in probes surrounding President Donald Trump.

Discovered on the website for the Office of Government Ethics, the “Patriot Legal Defense Fund” was created on January 30 to “provide assistance paying legal expenses for persons involved in the investigations by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III,” as well as the Senate and House intelligence committees “regarding Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election and related matters.”

In late November 2017, White House lawyer Ty Cobb announced the plan for the fund after it was revealed that the Trump campaign was paying the legal fees for the president and his eldest son. As the New York Times revealed earlier Thursday, that practice continues — a quarter of Trump’s re-election donations are used to pay for legal representation.

Speaking to NBC News on November 22, 2017, Cobb said the fund would not cover the fees for “indictees or current targets” of the probe, which includes former Trump adviser Michael Flynn and campaign aide Rick Gates, the deputy to one-time campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

As of press time, Maddow said she and her team do not know who the Patriot Legal Defense Fund will cover or where the money’s coming from — only that the OGE, who admitted that they do not “approve or disapprove of specific legal defense funds,” said its existence does not break any laws.

They're asking for money to defend these criminals on the "Office of Government Ethics" website? That these jackasses don't see the conflict of interests here really doesn't surprise me. NOTHING about these morons surprises me anymore.
