Ryan supports release of Democrats' countermemo

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) supports the release of a Democrat-drafted memo countering a GOP memo that reportedly alleges surveillance abuses at the Department of Justice.
The speaker is in favor of greater transparency. If it is scrubbed to ensure it does not reveal sources and methods of our intelligence gathering, the speaker supports the release of the Democrats' memo," Ryan's spokeswoman Ashlee Strong told The Hill on Friday.
The House Intelligence Committee voted on Monday to make the Republican-majority drafted memo public, while members voted to not release the Democrat-drafted memo.
Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee had expressed concerns that the countermemo would undermine sensitive intelligence sources and methods, according to the committee's ranking member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

(129,039 posts)and I may have heard wrong... was that Democrats were invited to "release theirs first". My immediate reaction was - if that were the case and I heard that right, then it's all a big bluff game.

(129,039 posts)I only reported what I heard was a statement purportedly from Ryan and my question was whether what I had heard (which was from a radio broadcast) was that he simply "offered" for Democrats to release the counter-response ("whenever" ) -OR- whether he "offered" for Democrats to "release FIRST" - meaning before they release their memo, like a fucking trap. Meaning they wouldn't have to release theirs and do a gotcha on Democrats...

(26,060 posts)I'm also aware of how he voted on the issue.

(129,039 posts)I was trying to confirm what I thought I heard - and it apparently WAS confirmed that I heard what I heard per post #9. I don't give a shit about whether he is legally able to say it or not. It's just the fact that his utterance is a red meat-targeted "dare" or "trap" to have the Democrats release their "rebuttal" before the GOP members of the committee actually do any release of their crap (if they even plan a release at all at this point).

(26,060 posts)the House votes to allow them to. Then it has to get sent to donnie. He's posturing, nothing else.

(129,039 posts)But note - Everything the GOP has done this year has been flouting the rules. All of Nunes' bullshit has been against the rules.
Feinstein released the GPS Fusion transcript "without permission" so there is nothing stopping anyone from breaking with this "honor system" government that we have had for the past 230 years, and saying fuck it, and bringing the whole system down.
Drumpf supposedly already sent it back to the committee yesterday if all the reports that came out yesterday were correct.

IWO Republicans' memo lacks so much credibility, it gains stature if its release is balanced with a counter one

(7,529 posts)Because then they can point and gasp and emphasize the "salaciousness" of it without actually revealing anything.
Luring the Democratic rebuttal out first means they can say "well, they did it first!"
If they do release the memo, it will be redacted like a bad movie review:
"A colossally-tremendous waste of time, effort, and perfectly good film stock. You should look anywhere else for your entertainment rather than see this movie!"
"A colossally-tremendous...film... You should...see this movie!"

(129,039 posts)THIS is what I thought I had heard. It's like baiting - "Democrats can go on and release THEIRS "first"" - like a poker game forcing a show of the hand.

(47,468 posts)Their memo being secret has served them much better than releasing it would. Meanwhile, he trying to make the Democrats look foolish and irresponsible by potentially allowing them to release their memo first.
All they do is play games and since Trump, they have been dangerous games.
