(33,467 posts)We must have an investigation into Ghazi Gowdy's investigations. He's running away, therefore he must be guilty. 5 to 10 years should be enough time for investigators to find out what he's hiding. Shouldn't have to testify before committees more than 3 or 4 days a week.

I fully endorse this return. If he gets appointed as a judge by trump, not so much.

Trey Gowdy is retiring but looks forward to exploiting 4 Americans killed in Benghazi while blaming everyone except the actual terrorists so he can achieve cheap political points in the private sector.

(29,227 posts)this is all part and parcel of Nunes memo...
Follow me here for a second. Nunes writes a memo that details some of the sources and methods the FBI has been using to listen in to both Russian spies and their collaborators. The intention was to claim that the supporting documentation used to get the FISA warrants was flawed so, therefore, the entire Mueller investigation is flawed ( fruit from the poisonous tree is the legal theory here ) .
However...
I don't think that the FISA warrants stoped with Carter Paige.
There were other important people caught up in this ( either directly in the sense that they had their conversations recorded OR that there were simply mentioned in crosstalk between Russians ) .
The more aware ( and possibly the more guilty ) of those caught up in this counter-intelligence operation are scuttling out of town in the hopes that resignation or not running for Congress is enough "punishment" for their collaborative actions.

(32,791 posts)The smart ones are getting out while they still can. Mueller knows where to find them though. They're just farther down the list, but he'll get them soon enough.
It's the Repukes that aren't leaving that are going to be the problem. Some are very guilty, but others might slide by. I mean how many cases can Mueller actually handle? The little guys with "less guilt" are still guilty, but they might get a pass when all is said and done.

(34,195 posts)... private practice before being appointed an Assistant United States Attorney in April 1994. Gowdy would later be awarded the Postal Inspectors Award for the successful prosecution of J. Mark Allen, one of Americas Most Wanted suspects.
In February 2000, he left the United States Attorneys Office to run for 7th Circuit Solicitor. He defeated incumbent Solicitor Holman Gossett in the Republican primary.
He ran unopposed in the general election. Gowdy was re-elected in 2004 and 2008, both times unopposed.
During his tenure, he appeared in four episodes of the television program "Forensic Files," as well as Dateline NBC and SCETV.
He prosecuted the full set of criminal cases, including seven death penalty cases.
When the State faced a budget crunch that forced many employees to go on unpaid furloughs, Gowdy funneled part of his campaign account into the Solicitor's budget so his staff could keep working.

bucolic_frolic
(43,342 posts)I'm wondering if so many are leaving due to fear of losing, recognizing the writing on the wall, or if this is a rolling extrusion from the ongoing investigation. In some novels, Robert Ludlum's "Apocalypse Watch" for example, full matrices of conspirators exit in full view and the public never learns the real reasons. Tidy, less political upheaval that way. Or perhaps just fiction.

"Gowdy's name has regularly been tossed around as a potential pick by the Trump administration to fill a judicial appointment. While he's denied that speculation in the past, a vacancy on the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, which has jurisdiction over South Carolina, opened up just one day before Gowdy announced his retirement."

And if it IS because he's going to replace Sessions....GOOD! That means he can spend the next two years being raked over the coals in front of a Democratic select committee, the way they did to Eric Holder.
