Collins: Republicans should give back Wynn donations

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said in a Sunday show interview that Republicans who have accepted donations from former RNC finance chair Steve Wynn should give the money back if they have not yet spent the funds.
If theyve accepted contributions recently from him that have not been spent, absolutely, I dont even think its a close call to return the money, Collins told CNNs State of the Union.
Collins said she planned to call on Wynn to step aside from his post due to the reported allegations of sexual misconduct against the casino mogul. Im very pleased that he immediately stepped down from the RNC position. I was going to call upon him to step down, she said.
The Maine lawmaker called the allegations against Wynn, which were reported by The Wall Street Journal, very serious. She also noted that she had never taken any money from the former chair.

Collins: Trump should 'never' talk about Russia probe
BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 01/28/18 09:36 AM EST
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Sunday said she thinks President Trump should never discuss the investigation into Russias election interference unless he is speaking privately with his lawyer.
I think the president would be best served by never discussing the investigation ever, whether in tweets, except in private conversations with his attorney, Collins told CNNs State of the Union.
Collins, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is conducting its own investigation into Russias election meddling, also said it would be a terrible mistake for Trump to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Rosenstein last year appointed special counsel Robert Mueller, who was tasked with investigation Russias election interference and any potential ties between Trump campaign staff members and the Kremlin.
Collinss advice to the president comes after The New York Times reported that Trump last year called for Muellers firing, but backtracked after the White House Counsel threatened to quit.

(128,979 posts)IF they haven't "spent the funds" then guaranteed they are spending them now.... And the RNC should reimburse for them regardless.
What a lovely copout

(2,886 posts)the two qualifiers regarding the return of funds..."accepted contributions recently from him that have not been spent" and then the definitive term "absolutely".

We are so screwed by all the money sloshing through politics. We don't have freedom anymore, we have a nation run by business interests for growth, profits and jobs, not for quality of life or health or well being.
The purpose of life is to enrich "da man".

(5,294 posts)and the fact that Wynn earned most of his fame/infamy in Las Vegas, reminds me of an old joke.
A tourist is walking down the Las Vegas Strip, and sees what appears to be a homeless man holding a sign that says "Hungry. Please Help."
The tourist looks at the homeless man and says, "How do I know you won't just use this for gambling?"
The homeless man says, "Oh, no! I've got gambling money."
So, Susan, even if they have spent that money, you can replace it from replacement funds.
