LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump would take a tougher approach to Brexit negotiations than Britains Prime Minister Theresa May, he said in a television interview to be broadcast later on Sunday.
In the interview with British channel ITV, Trump said the European Union was not cracked up to what its supposed to be and claimed he had predicted the result of the June 2016 referendum in which Britons voted to leave the EU. Trump was elected to the U.S. presidency later the same year.
When asked if May was in a good position regarding the ongoing Brexit talks, Trump replied: Would it be the way I negotiate? No, I wouldnt negotiate it the way its [being] negotiated ... I would have had a different attitude.
Pressed on how his approach would be different, he said: I would have said the European Union is not cracked up to what its supposed to be. I would have taken a tougher stand in getting out.

(59,503 posts)was not involved, and that he is insulting PM May and every EU country, can't he even get cliche phrases correct?
Shouldn't he have said the EU is NOT what it was cracked up to be?

(218 posts)Since the Brits weren't able to promise a protest-free visit, Cheeto-lini has to bluster. He is going to be so puffed up after that visit to Davos. He's going to be even more insufferable...is that possible?? He is so proud of himself, they let him sit at the Big Boys and Girls table! Oh, everyone tell him what a good boy he is.
It is beyond pathetic that this oaf is in office. As I write my letters to various folks in congress I ask them--"When are you going to stop pretending there's nothing wrong?"
Donny Deutsch referred to McConnell and Ryan as "cock-a-roaches" (his pronunciation) and that pretty much nails it. I can remember a city apartment during college days...screaming because I saw cock-a-roaches eating cheetos that had been left out. Hmmm....maybe I had a moment of precognition!

(791 posts)I mean the EU are doing a good job of not completely cutting Britain off as it is, it is very clear that a hardline approach would lead to total collapse of talks and no deals made. I imagine Merkel and Juncker would revel the chance to cut him down. It would be glorious.

NONE.
Trump simply has a pathological NEED to brag and to refer to himself in ways implying he's 'above' everyone else in the WORLD, it's an absolute COMPULSION of his.
It's a sickness, a syndrome, a character defect ... and is the MOST 'TEXTBOOK' trait present in cases of narcissistic personality disorder. And he regularly exhibits probably 95% of the top 20 traits/habits assc'd with this disorder.
And what's kinda funny about his high self-regard is that he's actually dumb as a post. Who the hell doesn't know that the expression is:
"it's not all that its cracked up to be?"
and NOT:
"not cracked up to what its supposed to be"

(7,403 posts)So why is he even speaking out. It is so inappropriate for him to even be saying anything, let alone criticizing one of our closest allies. Very deplorable of Trump.
