Lawyer: Woman was having psychotic episode when left in cold

Source: Associated Press

Updated 10:13 pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2018

BALTIMORE (AP) — An attorney for a woman who was left outside a Baltimore hospital wearing a patient gown and socks on a frigid night says she was having a psychotic episode when the institution turned its back on her.

The Baltimore Sun reports that J. Wyndal Gordon says the woman named Rebecca is now at an undisclosed inpatient facility undergoing mental health treatment. Gordon said Wednesday he was hired to represent the patient on behalf of her family. He says the actions of the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown employees were "cruel and inhumane."

Hospital officials say they are still investigating why the woman was escorted out of the hospital by uniformed security personnel and left at a city bus stop.

Gordon plans to hold a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Hoping Rebecca will get the help the hospital doesn't think she deserves.

Best hopes and wishes for this lady in need, who was wildly mistreated.

Her family will always remember this one good person who bothered to care about someone in pain.

fight for the NHS. As one who lived under it for some years, it is GREAT. My relatives live in the UK, and can not believe the horror stories from over here. We have the "Greatest Health Care in the World" IF you can pay for it. I say the UK has terrific healthcare, with no payments demanded.

Pro tip for all those who live in such a country: Don't let them.

is deluding themselves if they think this could never happen to them.

And, the pukes have this in mind for many more people, if their cruel agenda continues to be enacted.

These people have no advocates, no family to help. Hospitals/Doctors are allowed to kick them out.

The system will let them die, pawn them off on police or another emergency hospital when they sicken & drop in the streets. Even the Doctors & personal at the clinics/pharmacy don't care when this person tries to get a refill & is told to pay $300 or no re-fill inhaler. There is paperwork every single year for persons obviously disabled for life.

What really sucks is the person I help used to be able to buy an over the counter "priminitene? mist" inhaler & that worked fine for his needs. Our own government removed those as over the counter & now he must see a 'free' Doctor twice a yr for a prescription only medicine that doesn't work as well, very expensive & has to be used daily.

Her migraines are so bad, she vomits. She has to use suppositories since nothing will stay down. One afternoon, I took her to the Convenient Care clinic. We took plastic bags along, she was vomiting. Once there, she tried to check in. Since she has a co-pay, they would not see her until the co-pay was paid. I asked if she could stay seated, and let me pay it? NO. We stood in line behind a young, pregnant Hispanic woman, with two toddlers. The cashier was waiting for the interpreter to get there. Seems this woman could not speak English, and had no idea what "insurance" is!!Meanwhile, my daughter was dry heaving into a grocery bag. I have nothing against immigrants, but at this particular time, I was FURIUS. Why not allow my daughter to pay first, since she was obviously in distress? They FINALLY took the woman aside, and allowed my daughter to pay, so she could be treated. What an experience THAT was.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The mother of a mentally ill woman who was left outside a Baltimore hospital on a frigid night wearing only a flimsy gown and socks asserted she was denied care by medical professionals and left to face life-threatening conditions on the street.

Cheryl Chandler said she was only made aware of her missing 22-year-old daughter's predicament on the night of Jan. 9 when she happened upon a viral video shot by a passer-by who was enraged at the way she was treated.

Chandler's daughter, Rebecca, was escorted out of the hospital by uniformed security personnel with her street clothes stuffed in plastic bags, and she was left at an open-air bus stop with outdoor temperatures in the 30s. She had a gash on her forehead and was visibly disoriented, stumbling in her hospital gown and unable to formulate any words on the cold night.

At a Thursday press conference held at a lawyer's office, Chandler described her daughter as a beloved young woman who has been struggling intensely with mental illness since she was 16. Over the past year-and-a-half, she has cycled through a couple of residential facilities for mentally ill clients.
