Kelly calls some of Trumps campaign pledges on immigration, wall uninformed, meeting attendees say
By Ed O'Keefe January 17 at 4:02 PM
White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly told Democratic lawmakers Wednesday that the United States will never construct a physical wall along the entire stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border and that some of President Trumps campaign promises on immigration were uninformed.
The comments put Kelly at odds with Trump, who repeatedly said during his presidential campaign that he would build a border wall that Mexico would pay for, not U.S. taxpayers.
Kelly met with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, House Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) and Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), who chairs the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, at the U.S. Capitol in his fourth formal face-to-face encounter with Hispanic lawmakers, who have been deeply critical of Trumps position on immigration policy.
During the meeting, Kelly repeatedly said that Trump supports enacting permanent legal protections for young immigrant dreamers and that he has helped the president evolve on immigration policy. But the meeting ended with no resolution to what exactly the administration wants in exchange for authorizing permanent legal protections for the at least 690,000 people enrolled in the program, according to several attendees.

Kelly expresses optimism about dreamer deal without suggesting timeline

As House Republican leaders worked to avoid a government shutdown by rounding up votes for a short-term spending bill, White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly expressed optimism that Congress will work out a deal to protect dreamers.
Kelly gave an upbeat assessment of the state of play in the debate over legal status for immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children, while offering no timetable for when an agreement might be reached. His comments came as Republicans expressed cautious optimism that they have the votes to pass the short-term spending bill by midnight Friday.
The DACA deal will be worked out, I think, by the United States Congress, Kelly told reporters on Capitol Hill. Both sides of the aisle have agreed to meet in a smaller group and come up with [what] they think is the best DACA deal, and then itll of course be presented to the president. DACA refers to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Later, the White House expressed support for the short-term spending bill, and congressional liaison Marc Short said he was optimistic it would pass. But at least one Senate Republican Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) complicated the GOP outlook, saying he had informed leaders he will oppose the bill.

It won't take much. Just a couple of highly visible articles praising him for taking control and managing trump.
Really, he would be gone quickly.

Kelly's just playing to the audience (Hispanic lawmakers). He'll side with miller and mccarthy and all the other far right wing anti-immigrant nutters at the end of the day.

(6,262 posts)Bet Dump doesn't like it when it seems that Kelly is running the show on important legislation. Especially when Kelly basically calls Dump stupid on the topic.
Kelly is a horrible right winger, so I hope he is dumped by his insecure boss whose ego he hurt.
