Senate Dems one vote shy of restoring net neutrality

Source: Axios

Senate Democrats said Tuesday that all 49 of their party's members in the chamber now support a resolution to reverse the FCC's repeal of net neutrality rules. With Republican Sen. Susan Collins on board, the effort is only one vote away from passing in the Senate when supporters force a vote on the measure as soon as this spring.

The bigger picture: The plan to undo the FCC's repeal faces long odds in the House. Even if the measure did make it through Congress, the White House would likely veto it. Still, Democrats hope that keeping the fight alive will resonate with voters.

9. He is presumably very anti-net neutrality, and pro-"people and corps pay for speed"

He's the last senator you should look to for net neutrality.

This needs to be the Democrat's standard modus operandi. Quit caving, and start proving their mettle.

"the better angels of our nature", whereas the Repubs have a far better handle on the real nature of most people. I occasionally have discussions with friends about whether or not people are "inherently bad" or "inherently good". While most of us would prefer the latter to be the case, I always counter their argument with this: From earliest childhood, we have to teach people to be good, to be kind, to be unselfish, to be generous. Sometimes I get this response: "What about racism and bigotry? Remember that song from South Pacific -- 'You Have to be Carefully Taught'?"

What do you all think?

7. I agree. But is it because of self-preservation?

The Golden Rule exists in every religious belief that I can think of. Is it because of our "better angels", or simply out of necessity?

A successful species has found a successful balance of cooperation and competition. I don't believe in angels or gods.

"Angels of our better nature" is merely an expression. We do use the word "angels" as a synonym for a good, kind or helpful person. That's all.

11. I hope they get it. But Trump will veto it, so it won't get done.

But at least people will be on the record for where they stand.

13. So "Senate Dems one vote shy of restoring net neutrality" is a false headline.

But that is what the headline says on axios.com. It's not the fault of the poster here on DU.

14. Net Neutrality and protecting legal mariuana are powerful recruiting stances for Dems in 2018/2020

We need to recruit more of those in that huge political demographic of self defined Independents. These two issues need to become synonymous with being a Democrat and voting Democratic. Repugs are way off the popularity charts on these two issues, and need to be categorically nailed for it in every possible campaign.
