Deputy fatally shoots man while trying to serve warrant

Source: Associated Press

Updated 6:51 am, Tuesday, January 9, 2018

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say a Tennessee sheriff's deputy has fatally shot a man while trying to serve felony warrants on him.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the shooting occurred Monday afternoon when Hawkins County deputies were trying to serve warrants out of Dickenson County, Virginia, on 25-year-old Eugene Loftis of Church Hill. The bureau says in a statement that deputies found Loftis in a car in the driveway of a residence and ordered him to show his hands. The statement says Loftis reached for a gun and one deputy fired shots.

Officials say Loftis died at the scene. No deputies were injured.

The bureau, which is investigating the shooting, does not release names of deputies involved in shootings and did not release Loftis' race.

They also shoot when they simply allege someone reached for a gun, regardless of how fanciful the story may be...

And which happens more often?

Of the 1,000 or so civilians shot by officers last year only 68 were unarmed. And even some of those could be justifiable shoots if they tried to wrestle away the officers gun.

Don't put the perps prints on the gun or forget to wipe his own off the magazine and bullets. Of course that is on CSI. Most forensic technicians are too busy and just put down on the report whatever the cop says to.

I just saw a mugshot while searching for more details.

And he was wanted for Attempted Murder.

There was also a woman in the car with him, because after all, there's nothing more attractive to a woman than a guy who is wanted for almost killing someone.
