Street-level politics, more specifically an ongoing conflict between white supremacist demonstrators and “antifa,” or anti-fascist counterprotesters, has become a big news story following the rise of Donald Trump. Now, a gun company is using anger over “antifa” to sell dangerous assault rifles to only one side of the affair.

Spike’s Tactical, a gun company, previewed an ad on their Facebook page that depicts four heavily armed white men standing on the opposite side of a barrier, facing down a group of masked, unarmed “antifa” protesters. The ad mentions the sites of several political clashes that took place last year, including Berkeley, Portland, Boston, and Charlottesville, where neo-Nazis arrived at the rally heavily armed last August, and where a white man allegedly murdered a peaceful protester with his car.

“Not today Antifa,” a tagline to the violence-teasing ad declares. "Antifa," it should be noted, is a style of protest used by leftists, and not any kind of formal organization with a hierarchy.

The ad—which anti-fascists worry is fueling a desire to murder leftists—was run in conjunction with a clothing company called Pipe Hitters Union, who also posted the same version of the ad on their Facebook page. Newsweek reached out to both companies for a comment about the ad but did not immediately receive a response. It should be noted, of course, that owning a gun is not tethered to any specific political ideology, and as a result, some gun owners were unhappy with the post.

CAN YOU FUCKING BELIEVE THAT LAST COMMENT? First they point out how Nazis are encouraging armed attacks on their opponents, then Newsweek declares, well, shit, everybody does it and some really nice people own guns. This is NOT about "everybody does it." This is about armed thugs being encouraged to kill people. Why in God's name do they fell the need to water down this story?

I'm a 73-year-old liberal FDR New Deal Democrat. I also own a LOT of guns; I hunt, shoot, load my own ammo. The owner of my favorite local gunshop is a radical Trump supporter. He knows my politics, I know his. We get along just fine. He would NEVER do shit like that described here. In fact, he maintains a blacklist of local nutcases to whom he will not sell weapons or ammo. I was in his store one time when a couple of local skinheads came in -- he threw them out, told them to never come back.

.... Veteran I would like to remind Spike's Tactical and other's of that ilk that I too know how to shoot. Expertly according to the U.S. Army. I HAVE had training in the "military arts" and though I'm getting old I remember what I was taught. Some things never leave you.

So many of these facsists and their fellow travelers and gun fetishists seem to think that only THEY know how to use weapons. Big difference between them and others like me is ...... the REAL training I've had in how to use them. I didn't just pop into Walmart, buy a set of camo's and head on to the "tactical" (man how I laugh when I see that on gun store's) supply, buy a AR-15 and stop at the 7/11 for a case of Bud light before heading out to the woods to pretend I'm a big bad antifa basher.
