Bharara: If NYT story on Sessions is true, 'he must go now'

Source: The Hill

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 01/05/18 09:01 AM EST

Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Friday that if a recent New York Times report that Attorney General Jeff Sessions sought negative press coverage of former FBI Director James Comey is true, he must be ousted from the Justice Department.

The Times reported Thursday night that an aide to Sessions had asked a congressional staffer in May for damaging information about Comey, who was fired by President Trump days later. According to that report, Sessions wanted one negative news story each day about the then-FBI chief.

Before his ouster, Comey was leading the law enforcement investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Sessions recused himself from overseeing that investigation in March, after The Washington Post reported that he had failed to disclose meetings with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during Trump's 2016 campaign.

Again if he was, he co-conspired with trump to obstruct justice. Putting out damming things against your sitting head of the FBI could also be used to show their intent. He should have charges against him before this is all over with, for many things. Sessions will soon be in serious trouble.

a few other serious charges, even if Sessions acted alone. It really does seem that Sessions will spend time in a federal penitentiary, if he doesn't accept a deal and retire into history instead.

I suspect, though, that, looking to the enormous resources being devoted by the new dark money plutocrats, and no doubt god's help by some, they still think they can win through this and grow their power and control.

Of course he's right about the total impropriety. And I'm convinced Sessions wears his white sheet to work on casual Fridays. But Sessions has to stay.

This article explains why Trump has not fired Sessions already to get to Mueller. Both are involved in the conspiracy and once Sessions is gone, there is nothing which would prevent Sessions from flipping and testifying against Trump.

the notion that a new AG will have the ability to fire Muller because he/she will not be recused from the investigation. The other thing that can happen is that he/she does not fire Muller but starts interfering with the investigation to try to dismantle it from the inside.

I hope session is prosecuted as well, but until Muller is done with his investigation he may more useful there than ousted. Just my opinion.

With crooks like we have in this administration, its important to weight the good and the bad, Sessions is a light bad at this time, as light as we can get, which doesn't mean a whole lot. What a nightmare!

I think Trump doesn't have enough skill to keep Sessions close. I think he's too impulsive, angry and entitled. I think his PD will take over and he'll do what he wants, consequences be damned.
