TRUMP HANDS OVER BUSINESS DOCUMENTS TO MUELLER
Source: Newsweek

President Donald Trumps legal team has handed over to Special Counsel Robert Mueller business documents that include details about Trumps effort to build a hotel in Moscow, his campaigns communications with WikiLeaks and Trump Tower meeting when some of his senior campaign staffers sought to get dirt on Hillary Clinton from a Russian lawyer, according to a report by CNN.
Also given to congressional investigators, the documents cover the years 2015 through 2017 and include records of conversations by employees of Trump's business but no financial records, according to CNNs sources.
Given to investigators in 2017, the documents also include internal communications about Trumps April 2016 campaign speech on foreign policy and about an October 2016 speech Donald Trump Jr. delivered to a group in Paris that is closely tied to the Kremlin. Trump Jr. received $50,000 for the speech.
The White House directed a request for comment to Trumps lawyer for the Russia inquiry, Ty Cobb, who declined to comment to Newsweek.

(9,865 posts)It seems deceptively easy to me. Can't believe the important documents were really handed over without years of obstruction and countersuing etc.

(1,237 posts)How do you know that the "important" documents were handed over?

(81,466 posts)trump has never had to deal with somebody like Mueller. I heard some talking head this morning opine about how trump is accustomed to dealing with some low-ranking assistant district attorney in Manhattan whom he can bully, try to impress by throwing his weight around, or maybe cross a few palms with a few extra pieces of silver. He's never been up against somebody like Robert Mueller. He's in so far over his head on this that he might as well try to build a hotel/casino at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

I think that if Trump is ever caught for anything, it won't stem from documents his team voluntarily turned over to Mueller and Congressional committee's.
We know that no Trump properties were ever realized in Russia, except for a short lived Vodka branding license back in 2008.

(43,281 posts)If Mueller doesn't get the tax returns plus both sets of books, it's just not a complete picture.
Keeping two sets of books is an old accounting trick. Hard to believe that wasn't practiced in this case.

(115,836 posts)They could have been subpoenaed directly from the IRS without Trump even knowing about it. There are people who work for the FBI called forensic accountants who are able to analyze business records and find anomalies based on the continuity of the records, tax returns and other records. If the books are cooked Mueller's people will notice.

I've heard lots of speculation that Mueller may already have the tax returns. I'd bet he does. Robert Mueller is a seasoned pro whose track record entitles him to be taken VERY seriously. He's not some rube that trump's used to pulling a con upon, or some subcontractor trump plans to stiff because he simply doesn't feel like paying for work that was done. Mueller wasn't born yesterday.

(49,036 posts)Trump is trying to stonewall on that, which makes it crystal clear that is where the nub of the case is. Undoubtedly money laundering and possibly blackmail. Plus probably would expose the fact that Trump is a failure as a businessperson and that his empire is a house of cards.

If money laundering is discovered and has continued through the time he has been POTUS, can he be charged?
