Franken to formally thank supporters before leaving Senate

Source: Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Sen. Al Franken is meeting with supporters and friends in Minnesota before he officially resigns.

The Democrat planned to attend an event Thursday night in Minneapolis to thank supporters and friends after his eight years in the Senate. Media outlets were expected to be allowed to attend part of the event.

Franken announced his plans to resign earlier this month amid a storm of sexual misconduct allegations. He'll officially step down on Tuesday. His successor, current Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, is set to be sworn in on Wednesday.

The former "Saturday Night Live" comedian first won his Senate seat in 2009, after a lengthy recount. He officially beat Republican Norm Coleman by 312 votes.

I hope the upshot of all this is positive. This one really bothers me. The Leeann Tweeden thing was ridiculous, but the other stuff was what got to me. Even if - even if, and I'm not saying he was - he was a little too touchy-feely for some, abuse stems from the misuse of a power dynamic, which it seems patently clear he was not the least bit guilty of. Everyone who's worked for him says otherwise.

In Minneapolis right now. It was very touching. Lots of tears shed, lots of laughter. End of a grand era.

Sigh.

Fuk the assholes that framed him- don't care. If those assholes put a pussy-grabbing moron in office, then obviously anything goes.
