Romney says Obama just trying to 'hang onto power'

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney charged Wednesday that President Barack Obama is running a campaign "of enmity and jealousy and anger" and called on him to lift the tone of political discourse.

In an escalation of an increasingly acrimonious campaign, Romney went on national television to say he thinks Obama is "running just to hang onto power, and I think he would do anything in his power" to remain in office.

Asked if he was worried that people would think the presidential campaign has become "unhinged," the former Massachusetts governor replied, "I think unhinged would have to characterize what we've seen from the president's campaign."

In his interview Wednesday on "CBS This Morning," Romney said, "I can't speak for anybody else, but I can say that I think the comments of the vice president were one more example of a divisive effort to keep from talking about the issues."

"The president's campaign is all about division and attack and hatred and my campaign is about getting Americans back to work and creating more unity in this country," he said.

His campaign strategy, as detailed publicly, is to talk about Obama. The polls show that the biggest block of supporters for Romney are people who have strong negative feelings about Obama. That's all they've got.

2008 Presidential Run

After serving one term, he declined to run for reelection and announced his bid for U.S. President. Romney made it through Super Tuesday, winning primaries in Massachusetts, Alaska, Minnesota, Colorado and Utah, before losing the Republican nomination to John McCain. In total Romney spent $110 million on his campaign, including $45 million of his own money.

Mitt Romney seems to suffer from a severe case of projection. Either that or rejection. He constantly accuses Obama of doing almost everything he himself is guilty of. That plus he's a whiner. His speeches are unmotivative and lame and he can't even give one without talking about the president. It's like Romney is in love with Obama and having a hard time dealing with rejection.

Romney is the idea-less weathervane that just wants the title of President. Once people give him that (which in his mind is owed to him), he'll do some stuff.

about him.

It's clear to me who's become unhinged and I think it is becoming increasingly clear to the American People as well.

This is a classic case of Repug tactics. Accuse the other side of doing what they are actually doing.

I just hope that the MSM doesn't go along with them on this.

When I see any pics or clips of the President I've never seen the image of a man becoming unhinged. He is the coolest, most mild mannered person I know and he carries himself off that way all the time.

Actually I think that is what is getting to the Repugs and Rmoney. President Obama is unflappable. It scares the hell out of them that he can maintain himself with such decorum.

It's the Repugs and Rmoney that are caving to the pressure. They expected the Obama Campaign to just sit back and take all the lies and all the negativity. They didn't expect the Obama Campaign to fight back and actually refute the lies.

They don't know how to handle it. It wasn't in their game plan.
