Trump administration approves lethal arms sales to Ukraine

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 12/20/17 06:00 PM EST

The Trump administration on Wednesday approved the sale of lethal arms to Ukraine's government as the country battles pro-Russian separatists in its eastern provinces.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the administration approved the sale of Model M107A1 Sniper Systems and associated equipment to the country at a value of $41.5 million. The administration has not yet moved to approve heavier arms requested by Ukraine's government, including Javelin anti-tank missiles.

The move from the White House is a departure from the Obama administration, which frequently condemned Russian aggression in Crimea but refused to approve the sale of arms to Ukraine.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) applauded the Trump administration's decision in a statement to the Post.

The goal of both sides is to maximize profits for armaments and capital.

They may appear to be on opposite sides, but that's just the political cover story.

They haven’t sold anything yet. This is just granting license for such a sale.

Also, these are commercially available sniper rifles. Not actually military hardware. And not the heavy equipment requested by Ukraine.

This is a “see, look what I did. I can’t be beholden to Russia now” move.
