Rep. John Mica Defeats Tea Party Rep. Sandy Adams in Florida Primary.

Sarah-Palin-backed Rep. Sandy Adams failed to muster the votes to win in Florida’s new 7th district, which encompassed much of her current territory in the 112th Congress.

Palin, who endorsed Adams in July, was delivered her second primary-pick loss in as many weeks; Sarah Steelman’s loss in the Missouri GOP Senate primary last Tuesday broke Palin’s unbeaten streak in Senate-primary picks. Palin’s endorsees have gone four for five in GOP Senate primaries. After tonight, Palin will be 12 of 14 in House primaries, after Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio, lost her March primary to political newcomer and Army Reserves Major Brad Westrup.

Driven by House redistricting, the race brought two conservative lawmakers into a heated clash, as Adams sought to paint Mica as a big spender for decades of Congressional earmarking.

2. I don't get why they were put in the same district

I would have expected that the FL legislature would have protected all of the R incumbants.

3. It is pretty simple

In the last 10 years roughly 250,000 people from Puerto Rico moved to Orlando according to census figures. This is a big part of why Barack Obama took Orange County by 85,000 votes when John Kerry and Al Gore only took the county by 2000 votes. A large portion of this new community lives in east Orlando and northern Osceola County. This area was made into a District that happens to include Alan Grayson's home. Grayson will apparently be running against Todd Long, a tea party Ayn Randian fruitbat. Long was a constant minor irritant to the establishment repugs so they districted him into the new Grayson district where he can run and lose to his hearts content.

In a last minute move during redistricting they made a minor adjustment to the map to pull Sandy Adams' house out of the Grayson district into Mica's district, which leans strongly republican. She probably asked them to do so because there is no chance she would have beaten Grayson in the new district which leans heavily dem.

In short, I bet she thought her chances were better unseating Mica in a very red district than beating Grayson in a very blue district.

The criticism of Mica is fair, he does specialize in earmarking transportation dollars for the district and has for a very long time. We are getting commuter rail locally, and would have had high speed rail, except Gov. Scott refused the money Mica pulled in for that. Construction businesses like Mica and I am sure went to bat for him financially.

4. Although Mica is an R

He's an advocate for the aviation industry and not a crazy-eyed beserker like the Tea Garglers. I've had a chance to meet him at Flagler County Airport and I found him knowledgeable and engaging. Wish he would join our side.

6. The bottom line is that Grayson can raise alot of money

and none of the establishment repugs wanted to regularly faceoff with a well funded and well known opponent in a district that would have had parity or better for Democratic registrations. So they cut him a district and dumped as many Dems as they could into it to make it a "hispanic majority" district under redistricting rules in FL. While it should give Grayson an easy ride, it is not necessarily all good, as the plan will also allow at least 2 and perhaps 3 repugs a much easier ride to re-election in an area where Dems have an a growing advantage.

It is what it is. With repugs having a super majority in both houses of the state leg and the Gov's mansion, this is probably the best result we could have gotten out of redistricting.

7. I hope Half-Governor Palin endorse more candidates.
