Federal judge blocks Trump repeal of ObamaCare birth control mandate

Source: The Hill

BY AVERY ANAPOL - 12/15/17 02:45 PM EST

A Pennsylvania federal judge has blocked President Trump’s repeal of an ObamaCare mandate that required employers to provide birth control coverage.

Pennsylvania’s Wendy Beetlestone granted an injunction blocking the repeal, writing that it is in Pennsylvania’s public interest, according to Buzzfeed News.

The Trump administration rescinded the mandate in October, allowing employers to refuse to provide birth control coverage in their insurance plans for employees on moral or religious grounds.

The ACLU, National Women’s Law Center, and at least five other states have filed lawsuits or asked federal judges for preliminary injunctions to block Trump’s order.

But all of the judges currently on the court have lifetime appointments. There are still Clinton appointees serving.

How Barack Obama Transformed The Nation’s Courts

By Jennifer Bendery

WASHINGTON ― Republicans cannot wait to begin dismantling President Barack Obama’s accomplishments, but there’s one thing they can’t undo, even with full control of Congress and the White House: his judicial legacy.

Obama will leave office with 329 of his judicial nominees confirmed to lifetime posts on federal courts. That includes two U.S. Supreme Court justices and four judges on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the two most powerful courts in the nation. Because of Obama, Democratic appointees now have a 7-4 advantage on the D.C. panel, and those judges will play a major role in deciding cases during the Trump administration related to environmental regulations, health care, national security, consumer protections and challenges to executive orders.

Obama also tilted the partisan makeup of circuit courts. Nine of the country’s 13 appeals courts now have majority Democratic appointees, compared with just one when he took office in 2009.

There is a caveat to his judicial success, however: When Republicans regained the Senate majority two years ago, they ground judicial confirmations to a halt. That has left 86 district court vacancies and 17 circuit court vacancies for President-elect Donald Trump to fill. That’s a huge number of court seats to fall victim to partisan politics. For some context: Obama inherited 59 district and circuit court vacancies when he became president. Trump is inheriting 103.

to remove Obama's Presidency from U.S. history?
What a waste of a year Trump has been for the U.S.
I don't know how he ever got anything done in his past—living life in such a revengeful manner.

He didn't. He lived his life as a toddler in an adult body. Take a bite out of some carefully cut food on a plate, throw it on the floor, and then someone came and picked it up. Then wander to another room and find a cookie, take a bite, toss it on the floor, and again someone comes running behind him to pick it up. Add the 15 minute attention span and that should help to explain his state of being.
