Republicans finalize plan, expand benefits for working families in bid to win over Rubio

Congressional Republicans finished rewriting their massive plan to overhaul the tax code on Friday, adding in a significant expansion of the Child Tax Credit aimed at boosting benefits for low-income families.

The change was added to meet demands from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who threatened on Thursday to vote against the bill unless the credit was expanded, injecting last-minute chaos into a process.

Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.), one of the Republicans tasked with ironing out a final bill, said the credit had been expanded, particularly for low-income and working-class families. “I believe that we’re in a good spot and should be able to earn his support” she said of Rubio.

A Rubio spokeswoman said Rubio was reviewing the final measure to see if it was enough to satisfy his demands.

he fought to keep moore out. But, he is killing thousands by supporting this bill and the health care bill. He is an evil person. No way around it. All of these senators who are supporting these bills are monsters.

They are doing this against the working class and poor, all working stiffs regardless of party. This will hurt drumpf voters the most and he doesn't give a fuck. He panders to them on race and women because he hates both of those too, but on anything important financially, he'll kill them gladly to fatten his personal accounts.

itemize deductions.

Many people who currently itemize deductions will find that the tax they pay today will be increased under the republican tax bill because of the removal of the personal exemption. That difference will be amplified even more if they take away the SIT deduction, healthcare deduction, and home equity interest deduction.

It also does not factor in the increase in health insurance premiums that will result from removing the ACA mandate, and the increased healthcare costs if they remove the subsidies the ACA currently pay for people under a certain income, or expanded Medicaid.

Sadly, many of those effects may not be realized until a year down the road with this draconian tax bill

Notice Noem said, “I believe that we’re in a good spot and should be able to earn his support” she said of Rubio.

She didn't say, “I believe that we’re in a good spot to help the poor and working families."

didn't they do this to begin w/? 99% of the people they represent could use a little help. They still have a long ways to go in reshaping this stupid unneeded tax reform bill, e.g., turn around totally who's getting the lion's share of the benefits (1% of the 1%), but they won't...
