Graham: A high possibility Trump will attack North Korea if it conducts another missile test
Source: The Hill
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) in a new interview predicted there is a high possibility that President Trump could attack North Korea if the state conducts another nuclear missile test.
I would say theres a three in 10 chance we use the military option, Graham told The Atlantic published Thursday.
He said there is a "70 percent" chance the U.S. uses the military option if North Korea conducts an additional nuclear bomb test.
I dont know how to say it any more direct: If nothing changes, Trumps gonna have to use the military option, because time is running out, said Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The Republican lawmaker, who has become Hawkish when it comes to North Korea, wagered that it would be an "all-out war against the regime" if the president does take such measures.
There is no surgical strike option. Their [nuclear-weapons] program is too redundant, its too hardened, and you gotta assume the worst, not the best. So if you ever use the military option, its not to just neutralize their nuclear facilitiesyou gotta be willing to take the regime completely down, he told the publication.

They fought and won.
Two days later another crew member spotted five pirate ships, he run to the captain to warn him, the captain went down to his cabin and, again, came out wearing a red shirt.
They fought and won.
The crew was wondering why the red shirt, so they asked the captain who responded "I wear a red shirt because if during battle I get injured and start to bleed, you men will not notice and will continue to fight"
The crew's admiration for the captain was so high, what a brave man.
One week later another crew member spotted fifteen pirate ships, he run to the captain to warn him, the captain went down to his cabin and came out wearing brown pants.

Have confidence that the military will not allow this idiot trump to do something stupid, they know it is a ticket with no return for the World.

(3,515 posts)They are not just a threat to the US. They are a threat to China (especially) and to Russia (less so but still . . . .).
North Korea is led by a crazy man. So are we. Bad combination, but still, why is North Korea spending so much on developing nuclear weapons and delivery systems when its people are ill and hungry -- and living in a world in which the condition of the North Korean people is completely unnecessary.
You cannot treat insane people as though they are normal.

(194 posts)China supports NK. And so does Russia.
NK could threaten the US, at least they have the capability.
Kim Jong Un is not crazy. He is interested in preserving his regime. He knows the best way to do that is obtain nuclear weapons that put him on a level playing field with other world powers. Its the only way he will have leverage in the future.
By the way - we spend hundreds of billions on the military and we have plenty of poor and hungry here. Is that crazy too?

Both Graham and Trump fit the mold.
The lack of understanding about "consequences" is a dangerous thing, Trump and the GOP lack that sense.
Don't they understand that a Nuclear war is going to wipe them out of existence, and their families? Do they really think they will be safe? If the USA has some hiding place for the president and his family, does Graham really think he will be invited? I fail to understand how the think, how far they think, do they ever go through "possible scenarios", what could happen? what could be the consequences? It is really not that hard.
I believe the military understands that is a no won situation, and that unprovoked they will not follow the orders, and maybe even put him in jail. I am an eternal optimist, I understand that, but to think different sounds too depressing. To think that a person who understand consequences, and the military is trained to think that way, would allow the man-child to do something stupid? I can't think of that scenario.

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping said Thursday that the North Korean nuclear crisis would be resolved through talks and negotiation rather than war.
. . .
Their agreements echoed those of U.S. State Secretary Rex Tillerson who said Tuesday that the administration was willing to talk with North Korea without preconditions, offering an olive branch to the isolated nation.
The Blue House said that Moon and Xi also agreed to open a emergency phone line between them, in part to mend the relationship soured by the deployment of a U.S. missile defense system in Seongju in March. The two countries have been at odds over the installation of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, as China has opposed it vehemently, saying that the system's radars could be used to monitor its military bases and other security facilities.

The Korean people deserve peace as do we, but North Korea's obsession with military weapons in such a small, relatively poor country is absurd.
Americans have no reason to fight with North Korea other than that the North Korean leadership is a threat to us. It's obsession with developing weapons that could deliver nuclear weapons to our country is insane. It needs to end its nuclear program. It can only bring misery to the Korean people on both ends of their peninsula.

At times the press has lost the ability to probe for secondary consequences of actions. And in the case of mutual assured destruction , secondary consequences are kinda the point.
And of course this gives you an idea at how bad net neutrality and tax bill are performing because distractions.

And where's China while we're committing mass murder in its front yard, or while we're "just" planning to? China can probably take down various and/or all sections of our power grid or other, selected critical systems, and I'd be surprised if ICBMs still in development were the only weapons Kim has either.

(58,785 posts)abandoned our peacekeeper role that has, in fact, kept large wars from happening for over 75 years. Many nations have been able to develop under the mantle of peace secured for them by our commitment to treaties.
Not to say we haven't warred and murdered for profit, and some nations and regions we haven't felt we needed to protect for our own interests have not been protected. But, nevertheless, nearly 200 nations are in far greater danger today because the U.S. of today is not the U.S. nearly 7 billion people grew up with.
Under THIS leadership is by far the closest we've ever come to the nation you so foolishly imagine.
