Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is receiving treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., for side effects related to his cancer therapy, his office announced Wednesday.
"As ever, he remains grateful to his physicians for their excellent care, and his friends and supporters for their encouragement and good wishes. Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible," McCain's staff said in a statement.
McCain announced in July he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He has been undergoing treatment since.
In November, he suffered a minor tear in his right Achilles tendon as a side effect of the treatment.

My best hope is that his health problems keep him from being able to vote, causing a lot more political and emotional distress to McConnell than pain to McCain.

(4,150 posts)things. I don't wish ill on Senator McCain or his family, but I don't have any sympathy for them. It's MUCH, MUCH easier to deal with sickness and death when you have the means to pay for insurance, care, funeral expenses, and other "insignificant" goodies. The McCain family is enormously wealthy-- $millions. . . . They support an onerous tax and withdrawal of insurance options on the poorest individuals in the country-- the most vulnerable. No, I have NO pity for them--none. They support tax cuts for THEMSELVES. Fuck 'em.

Death doesn't know a political party.

(58,785 posts)due to inadequate healthcare could well be McCain's legacy. Within the first few years.
Death knows a political party, all right. The Republican Party has been taken over by people who've decided to put a stop to being taxed to provide healthcare for others.

I have found that in my old age I am more generous to the suffering and more insufferable to the morally less generous. Funny, that.

Joe Biden was a true and much needed comfort for Meghan. He is such a good, good man.

(7,188 posts)1. I am old enough to remember when GOP gripped about Beau Biden being at Walter Reed for treatment and insisting he should be in a private hospital or a VA hospital because Beau was no longer on active duty. No one here is gripping about McCain being at WR.
2. Joe Biden reached out to comfort Meghan McCain and the McCain family because he has empathy and compassion for what they are going through. How many GOP members had similar compassion for the Biden family or any Democrat?

I really have no feelings for his situation one way or the other. He spouts bravado stuff then votes with his koubari.
I went thu hell with my mom, an unspeakable experience that wrecked me to this day.
I do not wish evil on anyone, but have no feeling re: him. "Live for the living."

I do wonder if the tumor has affected his brain because of that vote. I did not expect that of him. The family would be aware and if the do not act because of them...they are complicit. I do not feel bad for his family at all.

This would have the effect of recognizing Jones as a Senator for AL, even if he hasn't been seated yet. (Up yours, Mitch.)
("Pairing" is an agreement that neither will vote if the other does not, since they know one is for, the other against. Commonly done as a courtesy to Senators who needs to be out of town during a particular vote.)

(2,351 posts)If he feels so strongly about 'regular order', the usual I think is to seat Jones as soon as he is certified as the winner. Don't know how much longer that will take.
