2 TRUMP JUDICIAL PICKS NOT MOVING FORWARD

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two of President Donald Trump's nominees for federal judge are not moving forward amid criticism from a leading Republican senator.

White House officials say the nomination of Brett Talley has been withdrawn. And a person familiar with the process says the administration hasn't submitted paperwork for the nomination of Jeff Mateer and does not intend to. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to describe internal deliberations.

In speeches, Mateer has described transgender children as evidence of "Satan's plan."

Talley has never argued a case in court and was rated "unanimously unqualified" by the American Bar Association.

The White House is withdrawing the nomination of another one of President Trump’s judicial nominees.

The Associated Press reported that the administration will not submit paperwork for Jeff Mateer, who Trump nominated to serve on a district court in Texas. The Hill confirmed Mateer will not be moving forward.

Mateer is the second judicial nominee to be withdrawn on Wednesday. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday urged Trump to “reconsider” the nominations of Mateer and Brett Talley, Trump’s pick to be a federal judge in Alabama.

A White House spokesperson confirmed earlier Wednesday that Talley, a Justice Department attorney, offered to withdraw his nomination. Critics railed against Talley's nomination, noting he has practiced law for less than three years and has never argued a case in court.

Mateer has been under scrutiny for his anti-LGBT views. In a series of speeches made in 2015, he compared homosexuality to bestiality, advocated for gay conversion therapy and described transgender children as a part of “Satan’s plan.”

After all, the party is led by an alleged serial sexual assailant and the vast majority of their members supported an alleged child predator for a Senate seat. Makes you wonder how many horrid ones have already been approved, let alone President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court.

Hruska was also co-founder of the Douglas Theatre Company, based in Nebraska.

Mediocrity

Hruska is best remembered in American political history for an anti-Semitic 1970 speech he made to the Senate urging them to confirm the nomination of G. Harrold Carswell to the Supreme Court. Responding to criticism that Carswell had been a mediocre judge, Hruska claimed that:

"Even if he were mediocre, there are a lot of mediocre judges and people and lawyers. They are entitled to a little representation, aren't they, and a little chance? We can't have all Brandeises, Frankfurters and Cardozos."

This speech was criticized by many, and Carswell was eventually defeated.
