Pat DiNizio, lead singer of the Smithereens Dies at 62

Pat DiNizio, founder and lead singer of New Jersey rock band The Smithereens has died at the age of 62, the band announced tonight (Dec. 12) on Facebook. The cause of death is as yet unknown.

From the band's Facebook page:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat DiNizio, lead singer and songwriter of the influential New Jersey rock band, The Smithereens - America's Band.
Pat was looking forward to getting back on the road and seeing his many fans and friends. Please keep Pat in your thoughts and prayers.

Was a big fan of the 13 album (Or was it 11. I know it was the # of years the band was together.) Just excellent song after excellent song.

This is sad news.

Saw them when they played a nearby college back in the 1980's. Was a huge fan. I met them before a show a couple years back. Pat was a really decent guy.

when I was 19 years old, I was an extra in a Trauma-films production of "the class of Nuke'm High" yeah yeah, whatever and a little known band was playing the "frat" scene. That band was the Smithereens.

I got to meet the band between takes. Nice guys.
