'You cannot silence me': Kirsten Gillibrand hits back at Trump for harassing her on Twitter

Source: RawStory

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) fired back at President Donald Trump’s Tuesday morning tweet in which the president suggestively said that she used to be willing to “do anything” to receive his campaign donations.

“You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office,” Gillibrand wrote.

Trump’s original tweet, which was in response to Gillibrand calling on Trump to step down in the wake of multiple sexual misconduct allegations made against him, accused the senator of regularly coming to his office and “begging” him for campaign donations.

The combination of Trump saying Gillibrand would come “begging” for money and would “do anything for them” has led some commenters to question whether Trump was making some kind of sexual innuendo in his attacks on the New York senator.

Donald J. Trump?Verified account @realDonaldTrump

Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!

There is such a BIG difference in this and say, what Warren has done taking the jackass on.

Warren gets some really sweet shots to his ribs, mostly takes his infantile pokes at her and just waits for him to expose his ribs again to give him another shot ...

Gillibrand forced this after the hair brained jihad on Franken, and vulnerable to him having taken 2 x 2,400 in donations from him, leads of her reply to his expected attack with "you can't silence me ..."

Kirsten has been one of the most outspoken critics of Trump and his boorish behavior since the beginning. She has made a career of fighting back against sexual assault and gender discrimination. I think the problem is you have chosen to ignore her until she turned her attention to Sen. Franken which says much more about you than it does her. Just saying...

I don't have any obligation to play the goal post game given that you and I both know calling for his resignation is simply the newest development, made possible of course by the Franken episode. I am also confident that you have the dexterity to utilize google in order to learn of Kirsten Gillibrand and what she's been up to all on your own. In order to get you started, five of the first hits after today's news:

sexual misconduct prior to getting blowback for calling for Franken's resignation. You blathered. I said prove it. You post a bunch of articles that have nothing to do with Gillibrand calling for Trump's resignation due to sexual misconduct prior to attacking Trump.

Yes, I know how to use Google and see her hypocrisy. My opinion on her as a senator has little meaning, I can't vote for or against her. I think she is doing a fine job, except for the huge fail of calling for Franken's resignation, and only then going after Trump when it backfired on her.

Note that I do not call for her resignation due to harming the Democratic Party and think that she should remain a Senator for as many terms as the people of her state elect her to.

Okay, fair enough, thank you for clarifying your point of view. Allow me to clarify mine and say that I was/am a huge fan of Al Franken's work as a Senator.

Full disclosure: Kirsten Gillibrand is my Senator.

Now here is the thing:

"except for the huge fail of calling for Franken's resignation, and only then going after Trump when it backfired on her."

At first glance this was a major WTF moment for me as well, however, it is entirely and completely consistent with her stated views throughout her career AND imagine her calling for Trump's resignation without or before doing so with Franken. Whoever said above that this is theater is right, it is. Gillibrand, and quite likely with the full, knowing cooperation of Al Franken, has maneuvered the national discourse within range of the target: Donald Trump. I am sorry we had to lose Al but as far as I'm concerned, we are in desperate times and a piece on the board had to be sacrificed. It may have been a fail, it may yet have been a brilliant maneuver, the target is Trump, not Franken.

She circumvented it, and if you are trying to claim this is some sort of chess move, it was a monumentally stupid blunder.

Franken's removal means nothing to the Moore supporters in Alabama. We will see tonight if Moore makes it or not, but the attack on Franken will not alter the outcome.

If Trump is to be removed from office, it will not be for sexual misconduct. It will be due to money laundering, collusion with Russia and/or Constitutional violations. There is no valid move to remove a sitting President for Sexual misconduct, so sacrificing Franken gains nothing. If you think that Gillibrand planned on attacking Trump for sexual misconduct after first trying the idea out within her own party, you are deluded. She only attacked Trump on sexual misconduct after getting negative press with what she did to Franken. If Trump resigns due to sexual misconduct, I will be in the front rows calling it a brilliant move, but for the meantime, I'm calling it a total fucking disaster gambling MY senator on a 100 million to one shot that Trump resigns due to sexual misconduct.

She has had a year to call for Trump's resignation with far more concrete evidence, yet remained silent until blowback for calling for Franken's resignation on flimsy, at best, charges of nothing approaching criminal behavior. That's strategy?

Kirsten has consistently been speaking out about sexual assault and has been quite consistent since the beginning of her term. Sexual assault in the military has been her signature issue and she has introduced legislation to address it. She is in fact and has been one of the most conducive senators over the past year.
