Family Of Keaton Jones Faces Backlash After Mother's Views Of Black Protestors Comes To Light

Source: Vibe.com

Over the weekend, a video of Tennessee native Keaton Jones went viral after he tearfully recalled moments of bullying at his school. The Facebook video, posted by his mother Kimberly Jones, went viral almost instantly as it amassed over 22 million views. A number of celebrities of color like Snoop Dogg, Rihanna and T.I. provided support to the child, but others are now calling out his mother for her political views.

On Monday (Dec. 11), posts from Jones came to light about her views on black protestors and a few photos showing her deep connection to the confederate flag. She also reportedly condemned the actions of Colin Kaepernick, who silently protested against police brutality by taking a knee during the National Anthem last year. In a post from August, Jones added to the continuing conversation about discipline towards children in the states.

Public insight has also swayed onto the topic of the power of black compassion and karma.

Her son Keaton, who has his own social media page, uploaded an apology on behalf of his mother on Monday. “I love my mother but I also realize wrong is wrong,” he said. “I hope we can all put her mistakes in the past and focus on bettering the world.”

...but now you need us "snowflakes" to stand up for you and your son.

Let's look into the bullying, since I can't take your word for anything, knowing how you feel about con-men (Trump).

But if what your son says is accurate, I will absolutely support and defend him. But now, the burden of proof is on you and your family. I no longer can give you the benefit of the doubt.

Ironic name, I know, but Union county, in east TN, is extremely white and extremely rural. If you know rural ET as I do, I doubt seriously anyone harassed the poor kid due to his mom's racist views. The majority of residents are just as racist and ass backwards as she.

or Donahue and talk about how they were sexually assaulted and other issues, such as the actress from One Day at a Time and the like where they'd recount what happened to them.

When she realized that they were breaking taboos that aren't told in a lot of families and others realized they weren't alone in their trauma, grief, and pain, it helped her to understand that it was a way to not be so isolated.

Such is what the initial video was all about and it's an important thing to help change, in small ways, the narrative of what's acceptable.

I mean besides reaping the benefits of the $60K in donations she's raked in, so far.

I don't doubt the kid got bullied, but I thought it was kind of hinkey that his mother recorded this and spread it around. I feel sorry for the kid that he is now in a position that he felt he had to apologize for her racist behavior. No kid should have to apologize for what their parents do. Hopefully, this apple will continue to roll as far away from his tree as he can as he grows up.

I do not think the mother should be called out for past perceived social transgressions.

I do not think her posting the video is in any way related to her views on race etc.

I don't believe her views on race, or the stances she has taken publically in the past disqualify her from having an opinion on the subject of bullying, nor do they diminish her Son's message.

I do believe that the proper focus should be on her Son and what he has been experiencing and wants to try to help change in society as a whole.

That said, I get it, I just don't like the way it seems to be playing out.

And the little guy with the felling ax is ironically yelling about the safety of the forest...

..."how did THIS particular bullying video go viral?" And I thought to myself that the mother must be exploiting and promoting her kid. Of course, I felt guilty for thinking this. But a GoFundMe? Millions of kids are bullied every day. I'm glad his bullies are getting their comeuppance, but do we really need to make a reality star out of one kid who was bullied? I swear, next the mom's gonna want to make her kid a celebrity.

What's sad is that the liberal celebs in my feed are the ones who posted the video. Wonder if the mom will change her tune when she realizes most celebs don't share her political views.

in such a vulnerable state and post it in public is a monster. That child will have to live with and be haunted by that video for the rest of his life. I won't even watch it. The only one that video should be shown to is the school principal, and his/her superiors if they don't take action.

I came home from school crying more than once. My parents talked to the authorities at the school and healed me of the emotional damage as only a parent can do. The school took action against those at fault. Case closed, and I'm damn glad there's no video of it today.

I'm not entirely clear that's what she meant in that post since we don't see it in context, but the article says she was talking about disciplining children, and the post in that context -- with the comment about a switch and the other things she says there -- is repulsive.

I was bullied, and so I initially sided with the kid. That was before I found out about the racial thing. And the fact that the kid likely brought it on himself by being a bully.
Guy on street getting beat up for no reason? Poor guy, how can I help?
Guy screaming the N word at people and getting beat up as a result? No sympathy. I hope you can turn yourself around and stop with the nonsense.
