Explosion Reported Near Port Authority in New York City

Officials are responding to an explosion in Midtown Manhattan in the Port Authority area Monday morning, New York City officials confirmed to NBC News.
The explosion took place near 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, according to the officials. Multiple ambulances have been requested.
A man is in custody, according to a law enforcement source. He appears to be the only person injured.

A senior city official who declined to be identified because of the continuing investigation said that the suspect had been wearing an explosive device and that the police had partially stripped him.

(12,047 posts)The suspect in a terror-related attack in New York City has been identified as Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant who lives in Brooklyn and was allegedly inspired by ISIS.
The former taxi driver detonated a crude explosive device that was attached to his body with Velcro and zip ties, according to police. The device was made from a pipe, a 9-volt battery, matches and Christmas tree lights, senior law enforcement officials told NBC News.
Ullah was taken to Bellevue Hospital after the blast with wounds and burns across his body.
