GOP Congresswoman Calls On Rep. Blake Farenthold To Resign
Source: Huffington Post
Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) wants Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) to resign from Congress after it was discovered that he used $84,000 in taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment claim.
I dont think he thinks hes done anything wrong, Love told CNN Thursday. But the fact is, someone was paid off. Its taxpayer dollars that [were] used. This is about people taking responsibility for what they do and changing the culture in Washington.
Few congressional Republicans have publicly called for Farentholds ouster. Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said in a statement released by her deputy chief of staff that Farenthold should step aside and pay back the taxpayer money. Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings (Md.) on Friday also called for Farentholds resignation.
The House Ethics Committee voted Thursday to launch an investigation into the allegation that Farenthold sexually harassed a female former staff member and retaliated against her.

..............In a statement to HuffPost last week, Farenthold wouldnt confirm that his office was behind the $84,000 settlement.
While I 100% support more transparency with respect to claims against members of Congress, I can neither confirm nor deny that settlement involved my office as the Congressional Accountability Act prohibits me from answering that question, he said.

(1,125 posts)to take stand for one's principles, it's not always the most prudent or practical action to take. When confronted with even the slightest accusation of some impropriety, Democrats almost always seem to immediately scurry away, never to be seen or heard from again. Even though they may not be guilty of what they're actually accused of doing, they appear to be so because they failed to explain or defend their actions in the public arena. On the other hand, Republicans almost always do just the opposite - deny, ignore, distract, project, double down, fabricate, etc. By doing so they actually enhance their standing with a significant segment of the public by appearing to be unjustly accused and having the conviction to make their case to the public. This makes them look like "strong" leaders to many citizens while the Democrats appear "weak" and guilty of whatever they're accused of doing.
