CA Assemblyman Resigns After Multiple Sexual Misconduct Allegations

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra resigned Monday following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, making him the first lawmaker to leave office amid a spate of harassment reports that has rocked the state Capitol.

The Los Angeles Democrat had previously said he wouldn’t seek re-election and would leave office at the end of the next legislative session. But on Monday, Bocanegra said that he’s decided to leave immediately following reflection over the Thanksgiving weekend and conversations with family, friends and supporters.

In a statement released by his office, Bocanegra said he’s not guilty of any crimes, but “I am admittedly not perfect.”

“I believed in our system of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ and that the truth would come out clearing my name and reputation,” Bocanegra wrote. “But clearly, the principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ has been temporarily lost in a hurricane of political opportunism among the self-righteous in my case – to the detriment of both the accuser and the accused.”

Every one of these allegations, true or not, helps reframe the narrative as "mostly a Democrat problem." While some may be spontaneous and sincere, I very much doubt they all are.

Trust me, potential accusers are being scouted and money is being offered.

And, not all of them are the SAME. Charlie Rose HAD to go. Joe Barton's not leaving though. thuglicans will stay and fight. tRumputin we is guilty of sexual misconduct/rape etc, and now he's saying that Access Hollywood tape is NOT him But he's sure NOT leaving. There are right-wingers out there like Bannon/Stone with "motives" who'd love nothing more than to run Democrats out of the Congress/Senate on "charges" of sexual misconduct and knowing that there's a chance that said accused Dem might LEAVE due to pressure from other Dems--even if those men may feel that they're not guilty of said serious sexual misconduct allegations.

All sexual misconduct is bad, but some is worse. You WILL have some women (Could be paid by thuglican operatives) coming out who will now start "anonymously" accusing men of sexual misconduct which makes for a REALLY slippery slope here where an anonymous accusal is enough to get a Dem to leave the Senate/Congress. You don't have a right to know whose accusing you of sexual misconduct? But, if you're a rapist, pedophile, you can STAY and run for the Senate? Look at how long it took to get Dennis Hastart's fat, little boy raping ass into jail, and even then Tom DeLay begged for and got HIM leniency. Jesus H. Christ. You know thuglicans aren't going to expel Moore if he wins that Senate seat.
