Dem. Rep. Rice Continues Call For Conyers To Resign: 'Enough Is Enough'

Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-NY) on Friday continued her call for Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) to resign from Congress following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.
Conyers says it didnt happen, CNNs Chris Cuomo asked Rice Friday morning. You say he should resign. Why?
Because enough is enough, Rice replied. At this point what I am voicing publicly is what every single private citizen is saying across America: Why are the rules for politicians in Washington different than they are for everyone else?
And the list is endless, she continued. Compare what happened to Harvey Weinstein, Louis C.K., Mark Halperin all appropriate consequences. And yet once we start getting into the realm of politicians, well, lets get the ethics commission into it, and lets investigate this, you know, and take forever to come up with a conclusion.

(34,452 posts)The # of accusers of Weinstein, Louis C.K., and Halperin, and the egregiousness of what they did, are not comparable to Conyers case. That is why the consequences were more immediate once the dam broke.
There is uncertainty about what happened in the two cases involving Conyers, so an investigation is needed. And the Congress needs to revise its terrible reporting and resolution procedures.

(1,770 posts)Cuomo's question AT all.
Eff her.
So if I accuse her of harassment, everyone should just take my word for it as the truth? Good to know.

(54,379 posts)Republicans get away with everything and no one asks them to resign except us. With Conyers, no one asks him to resign except us.
I mean, granted: another Democratic member of the House may know things that are open secrets among the membership and not to the public, but this is serious stuff. If she has a good reason to ask Conyers to resign, then out with it. If not, then she is following the Republican playbook. I don't want to hear any "well, we in the House all know" crap. WHAT do you know, Rep. Rice? And if you know it for a fact, you didn't get confirmation 48 hours ago. Why have you waited until now to say something? Explain your timing, please.
My brother worked for Conyers decades ago, when he was a young fiery Congressman, and said he was a pistol, and not one whose word was to be countermanded without a VERY good reason. By the time I met him, over 30 years later, he was in his seventies, had suffered a stroke several years before, and was a soft-spoken erudite gentleman. So what do I know? If Rice knows more than I do--and there's no reason why she shouldn't--then put up or shut up. Conveniently timed allegations to distract from Roy Moore do not, on their own, constitute grounds to demand a twenty-term Congressman's resignation. A demand for a fellow Democrat's resignation needs to backed up by more than repeating allegations by people with an opposing agenda. Enough is indeed enough.

A.) Solid, specific, detailed reasons why she thinks Conyers should resign
or
B.) A well-funded primary challenger who does not make such pronouncements.
Either one is fine with me.

(7,410 posts)Taxpayer-funded payouts at that. It's ridiculous that this behavior is secret and that the government/taxpayers have to pay the settlements without the perpetrators receiving any repercussions.
Rep. Jackie Speier, D-California, is heading it up in the House and it has a lot of bipartisan support already.
