Suspect accused of killing Texas state trooper is captured after shootout near Houston

A man suspected of killing a state trooper Thursday was taken into custody just west of Houston after a brief shootout and manhunt by authorities, according to social media posts and emergency scanners.

Authorities identified the man as Dabrett Black, 32, of Lindale.

The trooper was fatally shot Thursday afternoon in Freestone County after he pulled a vehicle over for a traffic violation.

After making contact with the driver, he returned to his patrol car when the suspect fired multiple shots from a rifle, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

3. And you're correct....

there's no way in hell this guy should be able to procure a firearm, but it's just so damned easy to get guns in this country. If you can't get one legally, there are more than enough guys with the trunks of their cars full of guns. You know, the guys who buy 50 guns a month from the same dealer because he's a "collector".

the war on drug, the war on poverty, etc. But the "war" (and maybe we need another word) we need to fight is the war on empathy and kindness and common sense.
