Roy Moore claims accuser won't hand over yearbook evidence because it's fake

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore reportedly said the reason attorney Gloria Allred has refused to release a copy of a yearbook, which she says is evidence in the sexual misconduct allegations against Moore, proves that the allegations are not true.
What they have alleged is completely untrue, Moore told Aaron Klein in an interview on New Yorks AM 970 "The Answer," according to a Breitbart report. The interview is set to air in full on Sunday.
Moore's comments come after Allred offered to hand over the yearbook from one of Moore's accusers to a congressional committee if the panel agreed to hold hearings on the allegations.
Allred said the yearbook confirms Moore knew her client, Beverly Young Nelson, in 1977 when she was 16 years old, and is evidence that Moore preyed on her client when she was a minor.

Actually, I sent Doug Jones a donation yesterday.

(22,048 posts)Perhaps the reason the woman doesn't want to turn over the yearbook is because there are other personal and unrelated things written in her book.
Someone in Alabama who has a respected voice has to tell the voters of Alabama what a disaster they are courting. If they elect Moore-- for whatever reason-- they are treasonous. If implemented, his philosophy would destroy the United States.

These Damn LIARS, like this attorney, who try to confuse things that are completely legitimate. It makes life so frustrating.
TELL THE FUCKING TRUTH! It's your writing, and you were trolling a high school student while in your 30's. There is nothing fake about it, so quit asking for the yearbook to be analyzed by someone you probably have paid off to LIE for you.

(11,841 posts)for whatever reason she just wouldn't do it. She just kept talking about Senate hearings, which seems ridiculous considering Moore isn't IN the Senate.
I believe these women, but Moore has the right to have someone examine the signature. The entire book doesn't have to be handed over, for those who think there may be some sort of "private" stuff written by others.
I've also said from the start that getting Allred involved was a huge mistake.

(383 posts)I've never heard an attorney make absolute statements about un-vetted evidence. Blitzer was asking Allred to render verification of a signature she is unfamiliar with. Even if she is familiar with Moore's signature, She is probably unqualified to make such a call. She did exactly the correct thing.

(11,841 posts)Once again, hurting her client in the process. She's making things worse. Her insistence on having a Senate hearing, which I don't even know would be held even if the Dems were in control, just to verify the signature is ridiculous.
Moore isn't in the Senate, so I don't see why they would have a hearing regarding him.

(2,003 posts)My hunch says the yearbook signature was forged. There are several inconsistencies. And when the yearbook story falls apart, the more legitimate claims from other women against Moore will fall under a cloud of suspicion as well. Right or wrong, that's how things go.
Allred mucked things up, that's for sure. She doesn't care. She got her face on TV which seems to be all she really wanted out of this.

Its not fair, I admit, but every time I see Allred on TV with a client, my first thought is not to believe the client. And I know thats not right.

If Moore wants the yearbook, he needs to actually file a lawsuit. You know, like he said he was going to do but didn't. He won't do that, because that would mean discovery and deposition. It's astounding how many people think it should just be handed over. Yeah, no, you want it, sue me for it.

(1,714 posts)by an expert be based on a copy? The yearbook blurb has been in articles, and I would think that that an analysis of that would be enough to prove or disprove it's authenticity.

(26,758 posts)Moore has already had someone do that (IIRC). But they aren't just looking at general shapes of letters, they're evaluating strokes and pressure on the paper... as well as the ink (age, etc.). Also - the images shown so far are very low quality. In one of them, there appear to be two entirely different color inks involved... while it looks like only one in the other photo and you can't tell if it's just a trick of lighting.

(2,003 posts)I mean, seriously, the numbers are written different, the ink looks different, handwriting looks different. Moore wasn't District Attorney in 1977. It's no surprise his people want to examine it. The whole thing looks bogus as shit. In fact, it looks so obviously fake one must wonder if it wasn't a deliberate attempt to sabotage the rest of the accusers' stories against Moore.

(26,758 posts)Someone who hits on teenage girls could certainly be someone who would "promote" himself to look better.
However - possibly the greatest point of concern (for me at least) is that he signed exactly that way on her divorce paperwork when he was a judge. I can't think of any reason why a judge would sign "DA" that way... and supposedly those are his assistant's initials.
That... along with the inexplicable double-dating on the yearbook script (including very different 7's) make the claim more difficult for me to debunk.
I note that it doesn't mean that he didn't assault her. Perhaps she was scared that she wouldn't be believed and manufactured evidence to prove what she knew to be true. It could, for instance, be his unsigned inscription above and she wanted to make sure that it would be tied to him.

(11,841 posts)Not fairly, since as far as I know none of them know each other. And their stories should be viewed on their own merit.
But hell, people are giving him a pass NOW, imagine if this signature turns out to be faked!
He'll claim its proof of a massive conspiracy against him
FBaggins
(26,758 posts)Even if it's forged... there's no reason for her to admit it if she only did so to back up legitimate claims.

(80 posts)Moore said he was filing a lawsuit. He didn't. Clearly his attorney is aware of what that would mean (deposition and discovery anyone) and instead held a useless press conference and made a useless demand. If I were completely innocent, I would file and get ALL of the "evidence." And if I was the one with said evidence, the ONLY way I would turn over anything was in the normal process of a court proceeding and not one minute sooner. The mere fact that his attorney/campaign manager has not filed said suit but instead held a useless press conference (pleading for campaign money) and made that useless demand speaks volumes.
