President Trump will be presented with a plan from senior aides to finance and sell weapons to Ukraine in an effort to counter Russian aggression in the region, ABC News reported Saturday.
A State Department source told ABC that the National Security Council decided Tuesday to approve the presentation of a $47 million grant package that would supply Ukraine with high-tech defensive weaponry including Javelin anti-tank missiles. The president and Congress must approve such a sale.
"We have no announcement at this time," a spokesman for the NSC told ABC.
Ukranian officials said last month that they are pleased with the "acceleration" of improving relations between the United States and Ukraine following a 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea, a region previously controlled by Ukraine.

(86 posts)The FGM-148 is a capable infantry weapon with a 90% 1-shot, 1-kill capability against all but the latest Russian tanks (T-90) The Russians have ~ 1500 T-90s in all variants in service.
In short, nothing for Putin to worry about.

(86 posts)actually no.
The dual, shaped-charges are good for reactive armor modules, and the top penetration flight path helps, but again against the T-90 it's not a 1-shot, 1-kill proposition.
The point was; its a 180 unit lot, *if approved*. Militarily it is inconsequential. Now if Trump were presented with a portoflio to provide the Ukrainians 1800 units, then it's a different matter.

No really!
Now you're being ridiculous.
The whole thing is probably a gesture -- an empty one; to make like we're doing something for the Ukrainians. Will be very telling when Trump turns it down.
So maybe its a test for Trump designed by our military and IC to gut check his loyalty? Recall that he signed the latest Russian sanctions law, but his adminitiation has yet to enact that law.
It would be very sad if this turned into a Rubicon moment for our defense establishment.
