White House strikes back at Bushes over weak legacy

Source: The Hill

BY BRANDON CARTER - 11/04/17 12:51 PM EDT

The White House fired back at former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush on Saturday, attacking their legacies after both Bushes expressed their displeasure with President Trump in a new book.

“If one presidential candidate can disassemble a political party, it speaks volumes about how strong a legacy its past two presidents really had,” the White House said in a statement first reported by CNN.

The younger Bush expressed concern in the new book, “The Last Republicans” by Mark K. Updegrove, that he would be “the last Republican president." The comment comes on the heels of former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) implying the Republican party is dead.

"Donald Trump’s not a Republican," he told Politico.

I joined DU out of angst, fear, loathing, and disgust after 9/11 and watching Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld and the rest of the neo-cons strut around with the biggest smirks, and exuding the most hubris I've ever seen, all this after lying to public about imminent threats, and before that failing to take the threat seriously in the first place. (Or worse purposely ignoring the warnings in hopes something would happen to further their desire to invade Iraq someday) And watching that inner circle make personal fortunes by lavishing themselves with no-bid contracts etc..while sending young men and women to their deaths for lies.

Now this same band of thieves, who aren't in on the spoils anymore, are critical of Trump's administration. The Bush's, especially W, worked for the same 1% as Trump and the GOP are today. The Bush era tax cuts for the wealthy are mirrored in Trumps tax cuts for the wealthy. Their cuts to regulations in CO2 output for industry and favoring the oil companies over renewables is mirrored as well. As is their attacks on public education and gay rights.

The only difference is that the Bush's had a modicum of decorum. Once in the odd while their true attitudes slipped through, like Barbara's opinion on those trapped in the Astro Dome during Katrina: "so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them". But for the most part they knew, or were told and listened, on how to present yourself in public and not revealing your true bigotry and greed. Its just that Trump doesn't give a shit. (Because that "bravado" is what is admired in him by the deplorable morans)

So beyond the entertainment of watching the Republicans eat their own, I find no joy or worth in the Bush's statements.

are just Trump with a veneer of manners.

They resent like hell that Trump crushed Jebbie last year, so badly that even with all the Bushco money, Jeb! couldn't win a single state primary or caucus.

Indeed, any Republican elected in 2016 would be pursuing the same failed, hateful, wrongheaded agenda as Trump.

And his early critiques on the Iraq war in general. (killing two birds with one stone, Hillary and the Jeb).

And how he insulted Jeb in the most personal ways,

http://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-jeb-bush-drop-out-2016-2

Trump relentlessly mocked Bush throughout much of this period, taunting him for campaigning with "mommy," teasing him for wearing contacts, and tweeting strange, altered images of the candidate.

If 'no personality' Jeb had done a little better, and if Trump had appointed him as his running mate, of course the Bushes would be lavishing praise on the Don. No doubt about it.

Let's not lionize the two Bushes who were very instrumental in the decline of our society. I don't care how awful Trump is (well, yes I do) it doesn't make the Bush family more palatable in my mind.

But actually, the more energy he wastes on nonsense like this, the less he is doing things that actually matter, so that's a good thing...
