Latest Weinstein Allegations Could Lead to Arrest
Source: CNN
The latest sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein could result in the first criminal charges against the movie mogul, an NYPD source familiar with the investigation told CNN.
"This is the strongest case we've had that fits within the statute of limitations," the source said, adding some detectives believe they have enough evidence to arrest Weinstein.
At a press conference Friday, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce described actress Paz de la Huerta's case as credible because of her "ability to articulate each movement of the crime, where she was, where this happened."
The Manhattan District Attorney's office told CNN they have a sex crimes prosecutor assigned to an "active investigation" into the alleged incidents
De la Huerta, who has appeared in "A Walk to Remember" and the HBO drama "Boardwalk Empire," alleges Weinstein raped her in her apartment on two separate occasions in 2010.

And if not why not?
Do we now cherry-pick who we choose to be crucified in the media?

(1,384 posts)But the point is valid regardless. We need to let things play out in court. There are a lot of allegations against a lot of people recently, and while most may be true, some may not be. Everyone deserves their day in court, we cannot accept accusations as truth without first examining the evidence.

(32,726 posts)I've read your identical statement in defense of Kevin Spacey, just posted today. For both men you're asking why is DU allowing these people to be convicted in the media, isn't that identical to the way Hillary was treated?
OK, we're not convicting these men (Weinstein and Spacey) on DU. We're only commenting on the news, and some of the comments might be slightly satirical or ironic. Some of them may be thoughtful, some may be inquisitive, while others might be confused or angry. We get the full range of human emotions here on DU.
I enjoy reading people's reactions because it helps me to understand how I feel about a news item. If I have curiosity about something I probably want to learn more, and DU shows where and how to learn more about it. None of us have the time to hang out at a neighborhood coffeeshop and discuss the news of the day, so this is our equivalent. Talking about something is not the same as convicting a person in the media. One thing I have noticed about DUers is that we do understand the difference.
