Trump: 'Don't remember much' about Papadopoulos meeting

President Trump said Friday he does not remember much about a March 2016 meeting with George Papadopoulos, a campaign aide who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contact with Russians.
I dont remember much about that meeting, it was an unimportant meeting, Trump said at the White House. Took place a long time dont remember much about it.
Papadopoulos admission was unsealed this week by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Moscows interference in the 2016 election. The plea agreement contained the clearest evidence yet of a connection with the Kremlins election-meddling effort and the Trump campaign.
Trump repeated his assertion his campaign did not collude with Russia to tip the election in his favor. All I can tell you is this: there was no collusion, there was no nothing, he told reporters.

(70,242 posts)............Trump and his aides have consistently downplayed Papadopouloss involvement on the campaign, calling him a low-level volunteer who was not involved with important decisions.
While Trump claimed not to remember the meeting with Papadopoulos, just two weeks ago he cited his long memory in disputing negative accounts of his condolence call with the widow of a slain U.S. soldier.
"One of the great memories of all time," he said at the time.

Youd think that it would be a memorable moment for a presidential candidate when one of his foreign policy advisers offered to set up a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Youd think that memory might be kept fresh when Russian election interference turned into a major story and a serious problem for your presidency. But not Donald Trump: .....

He's been making this claim for quite a while (this from 2015):
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump is not backing down from his claim that thousands of people in Arab communities in New Jersey were cheering on 9/11.
Trump defended himself by telling an NBC News reporter that he has "the worlds greatest memory" and that everybody knows that.

But, erm, this is from 2016:
Donald Trump in a deposition for a Trump University lawsuit said that he doesn't recall claiming to have the world's greatest memory, according to newly released transcripts.
A lawyer questioning Trump in the case on behalf of the plaintiffs, Jason Forge, peppered the presumptive GOP presidential nominee with questions about his claims and actions surrounding the case.
At one point, he told Trump that the businessman had stated he had "one of the best memories in the world," according to a transcript that includes hundreds of pages of testimony.
"I don't know. Did I use that expression?" Trump asked. When told he had used the phrase, the billionaire asked to see evidence that he had said it, being told there was video of his remark.
