Former Mexican ambassador says State Department is telling world leaders to stay at Trump hotels
Source: ThinkProgress
A former top Mexican diplomat accused the Trump administration this week of using official diplomatic channels to funnel business to Donald Trumps hotels.
Arturo Sarukhan, who served as Mexicos ambassador to the United States from 2007 to 2013, tweeted on Tuesday that a former U.S. diplomat told him the U.S. State Departments protocol emphasizes to world leaders that they should use Trumps D.C. hotel for official visits.
Sarukhans tweet also uses the term kakistocracy, which means government by the worst people.
If the State Department is, in fact, helping Trump drive foreign governments business to his hotels, then it is complicit in a violation of the Constitution. The Constitution provides that no person holding any office of profit or trust under the United States may without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

(4,033 posts)You can't change a law to make something that is prima facie unconstitutional somehow legal.
However, the Congress can simply ignore the fact that Trump violates the Constitution. There is, however, a suit by a number of hoteliers and restaurateurs that is slowly trying to make its way through the federal court system. Their argument is that they do have standing, because Trump is using the Office of the President to promote his businesses at the expense of their businesses.
The whole country is totally f**ked up!
