Trump suggests repealing ObamaCare mandate in tax bill

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Wednesday suggested that Republicans could use their tax reform bill to repeal ObamaCare’s individual mandate.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) has been pushing the idea of repealing the mandate in tax reform. A Cotton spokeswoman told The Hill that Cotton and Trump spoke by phone about the idea over the weekend and "the President indicated his strong support."

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said this week that he wouldn’t rule out including the repeal of the mandate in the tax legislation. But other top Republicans have rejected the idea, including House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) and Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.). They fear adding mandate repeal into the mix could jeopardize tax reform.

The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that repealing the mandate would save the government $416 billion over a decade.

Keep The Plane

Mr. Trump. Do yourself, do us all, a favor and stay in one of those countries you're planning on visiting. Saudi Arabia seems like a nice choice, but really any of them will do. We know how much you like planes, so why don't you just keep Air Force 1. Just don't fly it back here. Nothing good will come from you returning to the United States. You've already confessed to Obstruction of Justice. You can't borrow a dime from an American bank. We're pretty sure your staff is full of incompetent people who have been compromised by foreign powers. You clearly are not up to the job of President and you're embarrassing yourself and the entire country. As much as I would love to see the Senate tell you "you're fired" after an impeachment hearing, you've already done enough damage to our nation and we don't need any more.

So keep the plane. Its a small price to be paid to be rid of you. Its a great plane. Its a huge plane. Its the best plane there is and it can all be yours. Just stay away from us, because if you come home it won't be pretty. You can probably get your own show on Russian T.V. where Putin can come in every episode and tell you who to fire. It will be great. Just go away and don't come home. Nobody likes you here anymore.

with postcards with Obama's face on them. (Off topic, I know, but he is obsessed with repealing Obamacare because he knows he can't stand Obama's acheivements.)

6. So I had a question about how this saves the Government money

I clicked through to the CBO document to understand and the answer is worse than you think.

The CBO is assuming that a lot of people who either use Medicaid or get subsidies will drop out of the system without the mandate. The amount they collect in mandate penalties is less than the amount those people are assumed to cost the government.

So it really means that a whole lot of people will be without health insurance again and the Government will "save" that money.

Of course they will just head back into the emergency room when they need treatment and we will all end up paying for it in the end.

Trump couldn't get enough republican support to repeal and replace. HE has a chance to do a tax bill - also very controversial and has enough problems getting through congress - and he wants to saddle it with the bill that never had enough support to pass.

Does trump think this will help?

So instead of getting $2.00 per week tax cut it will be $3.00 per week. Then the millions in the middle class using ACA can start paying $1100.00 per month directly to BCBS when the ACA is in the dumpster.

Sounds like a great "deal" Trump.
